Step 1 - Identification of prior ideas

Teachers Activities – The teacher leads the students to answer the following questions.
i. What is vegetation?
ii. What is a forest?
Students Activities – The students responds to the teacher’s questions
Step 2 – Exploration
Mode – Entire class
Teacher’s Activities – The teacher guide the students to identify Nigerian vegetation on the map
of Nigeria displayed in front of the class.
Students’s Activities –The students identify Nigerian vegetation on the map displayed in front
of the class.
Step 3 – Discussion
Mode – Entire class
Teacher’s Activities – The teacher leads the students to;
1. Identify the vegetation zones in Nigeria
 Forest vegetation zone
 Savanna vegetation zone
 Montane vegetation zone
2. Give example of each vegetation zone
i. Forest vegetation zone
- Mangrove swamp forest (salt and fresh water swamp)
- Rain forest
ii. Savanna vegetation zone
- Guinea savanna
- Sudan savanna
- Sahel savanna
iii. Montane vegetation zone
- Highland areas
2. Locate each vegetation zone on the map of Nigeria

Soil erosion is define as the removal of the top layer of the soil through various agents like
water and wind.
