POSTER MAKING

INTRODUCTION

A poster is a combination of notice and advertisement. It is large in size and designed in such a way that
readily catches attention. Usually, posters include both textual and graphical elements, but a poster may also
be whole text or whole graphical. It should not be cluttered with too much text. Even empty space on
posters add to its beauty and readability.

PURPOSE

 To capture viewer’s or reader’s attention.

 Creating General Awareness.

 Making visual appeals to the masses.

 Issuing warnings or words of caution.

 Invitation to an Event/ Programme.

SOME USEFUL TIPS

 Use simple but striking language.

 Always design your poster in a box.

 Use full page of your answer sheet/register to design a poster (fit within one page).

 Write slogans/catchy phrases using big bold letters.

 Design your poster according to the theme/subject.

 Use easy visuals, if necessary. (Do not waste time on drawing pictures)

 List do’s and don’ts or instructions if any.

 Mention name of issuing authority.

 Stick to the word limit (usually 50 words).
