INTRODUCTION:
The Bachelor of Commerce in Law academic study for entry into a profession is
supplemented by an experiential period of learning.
Experience shows that the integration of theory and experiential learning results in
graduates who are both more mature and employable. Work experience encourages
students to develop a greater sense of responsibility, find greater meaning in their
studies, develop self-confidence, and gain exposure and experience in working with
different types of people.
4 HWBLW330-1-July-Dec2024-SuppSA1-NT-V1-12072024
PURPOSE & OUTCOMES:
You are required to complete 60 hours / two weeks of Practical Workplace Learning,
as part of the Work Integrated Learning module.
5 HWBLW330-1-July-Dec2024-SuppSA1-NT-V1-12072024
GUIDELINES:
• To fulfil the requirements for the Bachelor of Commerce in Law, a student must
complete 60 hours / two weeks of Workplace Integrated Learning in the form of
Practical Workplace Learning.
• It is crucial that students are active in the process of finding a suitable workplace
at which to complete their Practical Workplace Learning.
• Students may seek Practical Workplace Learning with any workplace available in
their area (including schools, churches, NGOs etc.), regardless of the specific
programme they are studying. However, because the types of tasks assigned are
solely up to the potential Practical Workplace Learning employer, it is strongly
advised that students seek placement with an organisation / company that aligns
with the intended use of their programme of study.
• Students should aim to utilise their programme’s knowledge areas during their
Practical Workplace Learning experience. This will assist in understanding how the
knowledge base presents itself and is applied within a real-life work environment.
• Appendix A of this document contains a Letter of Introduction, which you may use
to approach any company / organisation, where you wish to complete your
Practical Workplace Learning.
• The Educator for the Workplace Integrated Learning module may be consulted for
any further clarification or support you may require.
