Description of Group Assignment

1. Objective of the Assignment


The objective of this assignment is to give an opportunity for the students to apply what they have learned in the course regarding impact of
investment decision making (capital budgeting decision) on company value. Specifically, students will examine how their chosen company’s
investment in fixed assets over the years has given any impact to the company, i.e., either increased or decreased the value of the company via the
change in its stock prices.

2. Group Members
a. Each group should consist of a maximum of 5 members.
b. Ideally, the members should come from different programs (both Management and Accounting).

3. Selection of Company
a. The selection of company is on the first come first serve basis.
b. Each group will select ONE company from Bursa Malaysia.
c. The company selected can be from any industry listed in the Bursa Malaysia except for the Banking and Finance industry.
d. Data can be collected from annual reports, related publications, and/or company website.
e. The data collected should cover at least the latest FIVE years.

4. Registration of the group and the company


All groups should register their company and members in a common Google sheet. Once a company has been chosen, the other
groups must not select the same company again. There is also a list of companies which must not be selected, and this list is given at
the bottom of this document. Please select the company carefully, making sure that the data and information needed is available.

5. Contents of the Group Assignment


The write up should include the following sections
a. Introduction and objective of the report (see item no. 1 above – maximum 1 page)
b. Background of the company (maximum 2 pages)
c. The discussion of the FIXED ASSETS invested by the company in a year for the last five years. The discussion may include the
types of fixed assets the company invested in (for example property, plant & equipment) and the amount spent. This
information may be obtained from the company’s annual report.
d. The discussion of the trends in the company stock prices for the last five years. Please provide possible justifications for the
trends observed. The discussion may include some descriptive statistics (mean, min, max etc).
e. Statistical analysis (correlation test, regression analysis etc) of the impact of the investment in fixed assets on the company’s
value (stock prices).
f. Discussion of the results (may include graphs/tables/figures). Do the investment in fixed asset affect the company’s stock
price? Additionally, is there any impact of the global/regional economic/political development on the trends/relationships
of the investment in fixed assets and company’s value?
g. Conclusion
h. References

6. Format
a. TNR; font size: 11, 1.5 double spacing.
b. Maximum 15 pages for the contents excluding table of contents, references, appendices.
c. Please upload the completed report through the course e-learning on the due date (link will be provided).
