3. 5,000 meter run or 5 kilometer run (5k),
4. 10,000 meter run or 10k run,
5. 21,000 meter run or 21k run (half marathon)
6. 42,200 meter run or 42.2k run (full marathon)
1. 3,000 meter run (3k)

a half laps (rounds) around a
standard track oval. It begins
with a curved starting line but
is run without lanes.
• The 3000 marks the start of
the long distance events.
1. 3,000 meter run (3k)

• starting line (the curve is greater

on the smaller indoor track) but
don’t run in lanes, so the start is
mainly a competition to gain a
runner’s favoured position on
the track.
• Endurance is paramount at this
distance, and above, with top
speeds reserved for the final
lap.
2. 3,000 meter steeplechase

• It is a race, usually of 3,000 meter over two

kinds of obstacles, hurdles and water jumps.
• There shall be 28 hurdle jumps and 7 water
jumps included in the 3000m event.
3. 5,000 meter run (5k run)

• Approximately twelve and a half laps

(rounds) in a standard track oval.
• It also begins with a curved starting
line but is run without lanes.
• Competitors start on a curved line
and can immediately run anywhere
on the track, leading to a large initial
pack typically stretching three four
lanes wide, depending on how many
runners are racing.
4. 10,000 meter run (10k run)

• The 10,000m run / 10k run is a

common long-distance track running
event.
• The event is part of
the athletics program at the Olympic
Games and the World Athletics
Championships, and is common at
championship level events.
• The race consists of 25 laps / rounds
around an Olympic-sized track.
4. 10,000 meter run (10k run)

• It is less commonly held at track

and field meetings, due to its
duration.
• The 10,000-metre track race is
usually distinguished from
its road running counterpart,
the 10k run, by its reference to
the distance in meters rather than
kilometers.
5. 20,000m run / 21k run (half marathon)
• The 20,000m run
(approximately 12.43 mi or
65,617 ft) is a rarely
contested long distance
running event in track and
field competitions
• most world records in the
event have been set
during half marathon
and one-hour race, as a
half marathon is roughly
21,000 meters.
6. 42,200m run / 42.2k
7. (Full marathon)

• 42,200m run / 42.2k (Full

marathon) is usually run as a road
race, but the distance can be
covered on trail routes.
• The event was instituted in
commemoration of the fabled run
of the Greek soldier Pheidippides,
a messenger from the Battle of
Marathon to Athens, who reported
the victory.
