What is a Main Verb?

A main verb is the most important verb in a sentence. It tells the action or state of being in the
sentence.

🔹 Examples of Main Verbs:

 She runs every morning. (action)


 He feels happy. (state of being)
 We play soccer on weekends. (action)

What is a Helping Verb?

A helping verb (also called an auxiliary verb) works with the main verb to show time, tense,
or possibility.

🔹 Common Helping Verbs:

 is, am, are, was, were (help show present or past tense)
 has, have, had (help show perfect tense)
 can, could, will, would, shall, should, may, might, must (help show possibility or
necessity)

🔹 Examples of Helping and Main Verbs Together:

 She is running in the park. ("is" = helping verb, "running" = main verb)
 We have finished our homework. ("have" = helping verb, "finished" = main verb)
 He can swim very fast. ("can" = helping verb, "swim" = main verb)
