What is a Main Verb
What is a Main Verb
A main verb is the most important verb in a sentence. It tells the action or state of being in the
sentence.
A helping verb (also called an auxiliary verb) works with the main verb to show time, tense,
or possibility.
is, am, are, was, were (help show present or past tense)
has, have, had (help show perfect tense)
can, could, will, would, shall, should, may, might, must (help show possibility or
necessity)
She is running in the park. ("is" = helping verb, "running" = main verb)
