Equation Solving Techniques

## 1. What is an Equation?
An equation is a mathematical statement that shows equality between two expressions.
Example: 6y + 8 = 16

## 2. Basic Rules of Solving Equations:

- Perform the same operation on both sides to maintain balance.
- If a number is added, subtract it.
- If a number is multiplied, divide it.

## 3. Step-by-step Method:

### Example 1: 6y + 8 = 16
Step 1: Isolate y by subtracting 8 from both sides.
6y = 16 - 8
6y = 8

Step 2: Divide by 6 to solve for y.

y = 8 / 6 = 4/3

### Example 2: 7b - 7 = 42
Step 1: Add 7 to both sides.
7b = 42 + 7
7b = 49

Step 2: Divide by 7.
b = 49 / 7
b=7

### Example 3: 7(a - 1) = 7

Step 1: Expand the equation.
7a - 7 = 7

Step 2: Add 7 to both sides.

7a = 14

Step 3: Divide by 7.
a = 14 / 7
a=2

### Example 4: Fractional Equations

Equation: (8x + 2)/4 = 9

Step 1: Multiply both sides by 4.

8x + 2 = 36

Step 2: Subtract 2.
8x = 34

Step 3: Divide by 8.
x = 34 / 8 = 17/4

## 4. Tips to Remember:
1. If something is added, subtract it.
2. If something is subtracted, add it.
3. If something is multiplied, divide it.
4. If something is divided, multiply it.
5. Remove brackets first.
6. For two-variable equations, eliminate one variable to solve for the other.
