・The availability of Rooftop solar

Generally, Solar park solar PV can be installed considering the direction to increase the amount of
power generation.
The direction of Rooftop solar PV, on the other hand, is limited by the direction of the roof on it.
Therefore, the availability of Rooftop solar PV tends to be smaller than solar park solar PV.

There is the data that Japan's Rooftop solar PV has 4% lower availability than Solar park solar PV.
Considering that Bangladesh does not have as much difference in solar angle due to directions by
seasons as Japan does, Bangladesh's availability was lowered by 2% from 20% to 18%.

9
Rooftop solar PV(2)
Compared to the current situation in Germany and Japan,

The Example other than the rooftop solar PV at detached houses

Bangladesh Economic Zone Authority (BEZA) show the list of the Economic Zones Site.
The total No. of “Government Approved Economic Zone Sites” is 68 and approx. 300 km2.

If 20% of the 300 km2 can be covered by a rooftop,

the total area is 60 km2.
Even if the density is 50 MW/km2,
which is lower than Solar-Park,
at least 3,000 MW Rooftop solar PV can be installed.

Wind power (1)
(MW)
Year 2030 2041 2050 "Assessing the Wind Energy Potential in Bangladesh, Enabling Wind
Energy Development with Data Products"
On-shore wind 750 1,575 5,000 September 2018, A product of the USAID-NREL Partnership

Off-shore wind 0 6,000 15,000 (P.64)

The preliminary technical potential analysis calculates gross potential and
does not filter out already-developed land, environmentally sensitive land,
According to the report on the right, a wind condition or land unsuitable for other reasons. However, these preliminary results
survey in Bangladesh revealed that 1.5 MW of wind demonstrate that, for wind speeds of 5.75–7.75 m/s, there are more than
power can be installed per km2. 20,000 km2 of land with a gross wind potential of over 30,000 MW.
Although this estimate is not realistic when proper filters are applied to
(30,000MW÷20,000km2)
screen out undesirable land for wind development, it suggests that
Bangladesh’s 10% renewable target by 2021 is achievable.
This result is on land, and wind conditions are usually
better offshore, so an installation density of
1.5 (MW/km2) can be expected for offshore wind power.

The coastline of the Bay of Bengal is about 500km on the right map,
and considering the territorial waters of 20km,
wind turbine generators can be installed
in an area of 500 x 20 = 10,000km2.

1.5(MW/km2)×10,000km2=15,000MW 12
Wind power (1)-1
5.75-7.75 m/s area is suggested for wind power generation, therefore, gulf area are suggested for
on-shore wind power generation based on the “Assessing the Wind Energy Potential in Bangladesh”
(Below Figure).

The forecasted value of 5,000 MW of on-shore wind

power in 2050 in IEPMP:

1.5 (MW) × 3,333 km2 = 5,000 MW

This will be achieved by constructing wind turbines

in an area of 3,333 km2,
where is the area surrounded by red line in the right
figure.

Therefore, it can be seen that

the forecasted value of 5,000MW
for on-shore wind power is not excessive.

As a reference, the installation status of off-shore wind turbine generators in Japan

in recent years is shown in the table below.
At a minimum, wind turbine generators have been installed at a density of 6.29 MW/km2,
and 1.5 MW/km2 is not excessive for off-shore wind power in Bangladesh.
