Solve the following word problems

1. Mrs Tan needs 84 oz of frosting to make 14 cakes. How much frosting does she
need in order to make 70 cakes?

2. In order to get a secretarial job, a person has to be able to type 100 words per
minute.

Janice can type 4800 words in an hour. Is she eligible to get the job? Why or why
not?

3. A car driver covered 225 miles in 5 hour. At the same rate, if he went from city
A to city B with a distance of 900 miles, how many hours did he need?

4. Mom asks Janice to buy some apples in the supermarket. The apples are sold in
packs. A pack of 8 apples costs $2.40, a pack of 15 apples costs $4.20, and a pack
of 24 apples costs $7. Find the cost of the apple on each pack and select the
cheapest price for an apple for Janice.
5. Cheryl wants to subscribe to TeenFlix. There are three subscription plans
available: 5 months for $19, 9 months for $34, and 12 months for $46. Find the
best rate that Cheryl should choose.

6. Morgan scored 41 points in 3 games. How many points would you expect him

18. Devin went shopping for a new scooter. He bought one on sale for 15% off its
regular price of $140. If sales tax is 8% after the discount, what was the total cost
of the scooter?

19. 40% of the students in a class joined the Art Club. 20% of the remaining
students joined the Dance Society. The rest joined the choir. If 108 more students
joined the choir than the Dance Society, how many fewer students joined the Art
Club?
