Mathematics – XI
Time : 3 hr Max Marks : 100

General Instructions :

1. All questions are compulsory.

2. The question paper consists of 29 questions divided into three sections A, B and C.
Section A comprises of 10 questions of one mark each, Section B comprises of 12
questions of four marks each and Section C comprises of 07 questions of six marks
each.

3. All questions in Section A are to be answered in one word, one sentence or as per
the exact requirement of the question.

4. There is no overall choice. However, internal choice has been provided in 04 questions
of four marks each and 02 questions of six marks each. You have to attempt only one
of the alternatives in all such questions.

5. Use of calculators is not permitted. You may ask for logarithmic tables, if required.

SECTION – A
(1) If letters of the word ASHISH is arranged and a word is selected. Find the probability that it starts with A.

(2) Find the general solution for ‘x’ if sin x + cos x = 0

(3) State the quadrant of the complex no. – √2 i .

(4) Solve the inequation for natural x : 3 (1 – x) < 2 (x + 4)

(5) Find the number of diagonal to a polygon having n sides.

(6) ) Find the middle term in the expansions of ( x / 9 + 3y ) 11 .

(7) Find the slope of the line x = 2.

(8) Find the vertex of the parabola y = x2 – 2.

(9) If (1 , 2, 3) and (2 , –3 , 1) are any two vertices of a triangle with centroid at origin. Find its third vertex.

(10) Evaluate : lim x . cot 2x

SECTION – B
(11) Out of 100 students, two sections of 40 and 60 are formed. If you and your friend are among 100 students.
What is the probability that, (i) you both enter the same section ?
(ii) you both enter the different section ?
OR
A fair coin is tossed 4 times a person win Re 1 , for each head and lose Rs1.50 for each tail that turns up.
From the sample space & calculate how many different amount of money the person can have after 4 tosses
also calculate the probability of having each of these amount.

axes respectively.

Find the equation of the parabola which is symmetric about the Y – axis and passes through the point
A (2 , –3).

(15) If p and q are the lengths of perpendiculars from the origin to the lines x cosθ − ysin θ = k cos2θ and
x sec θ + y cosec θ = k , respectively, prove that p2 + 4q2 = k2 .

(23) Solve for ‘x’ : tan x + tan (x + π / 3) + tan (x + 2π/ 3 ) = 3 .

(24) Two students Shivani and Swati appeared in an examination. The probability that Shivani will qualify the
examination is 0.05 and that Swati will qualify the examination is 0.10. The probability that both will
qualify the examination is 0.02. Find the probability that,
(i) Both Shivani and Swati will not qualify the examination.
(ii) At least one of them will not qualify the examination.
(iii) Only one of them will qualify the examination.

(25) A person standing at the junction (crossing) of two straight paths represented by the equation
2x – 3y + 4 = 0 and 3x + 4y – 5 = 0 wants to reach the path whose equation is 6x – 7y + 8 = 0 in the least
time. Find the equation of the path he should follow, and least distance travelled by him.
OR
Find the equation of the line through the point ( 3 , 2 ) and which makes an angle 45o with x – 2y = 3.

(26) A beam is supported at its ends by supports which are 12 m apart. Since the load is connected at its centre,
there is a deflection of 3cm at the centre. And the deflected beam is in the shape of a parabola. How far
from the centre is the deflection 1 cm?

(27) Find the differential coefficient of x2. sin x , by first principle.

(28) Find the sum of the first n terms of the series: 5 + 11 + 19 + 29 + 41 + - - - .


OR
The ratio of the A.M. and G.M. of two positive numbers a and b, is m : n. Show that
a : b = m + √m2 – n2 : m – √m2 – n2

(29) The mean and variance of 7 observations are 8 and 16, respectively. If five of the observations are
2, 4, 10, 12, 14, find the remaining two observations.
