GEO100 Final project overview
GEO100 Final project overview
Human geography aims to tell the story of people and the places to which they are connected. In this
project you present your “geography” in an online space. The project must include a map that illustrates your
story.
Specifically, you will create a “presentation” that tells your story and display it in an online
space/medium by discussing or illustrating all of the following points with respect to your geography.
• Describe and discuss 3 places that are important in your story. Illustrate these places in a map.
• Describe how you have impacted your chosen places.
• Describe how these places have impacted you.
• Discuss your story in the context of geography concepts.
• Describe the interconnectivity of the places and your experiences.
Choose one of the following themes to shape how you tell your story and give context to your map: politics,
ecology, economics, culture
You must use a web-based (online) media to present your project. Choose one of the following online spaces to
present your project.
1. Create a segment using Youtube and publish it – privately or publicly – 6 to 8 minute segment
2. Create a website or blog and publish it – 2000 – 2500 words.
There are many free software programs to create and publish your project. Since there may be personal and
sensitive material in your project, you may want to use passwords and other means to protect your work
online.
Your map must be embedded in your project. If you use an online software or program (such as googlemaps)
to create your map, ensure that the map is linked to your website or blog, or directly embedded into the project.
If you create a blog, you must submit a complete copy of your text in a pdf file in addition to the weblink.
If you create a youtube video, you must submit a complete copy of your script in a pdf file in addition to the
weblink.
By the due date, you will submit one pdf text/script and submit one weblink, where you have posted your
project (and any necessary passwords so I can view your project) on Moodle. Ensure your weblink is not
broken. If you use multiple technologies, link them together to one online “space’. (Do not send the multiple
weblinks). Refer to the rubrics for proper submission guidelines.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
GRADING
This project is worth 20% of your grade (3% proposal; 17% final project). Complete a project proposal by the
due date. Use the feedback from the proposal to inform the final project.
OPTIONAL: Project Proposal: A written description of how you intend to use the online medium and why you
chose that particular medium to complete the presentation, and an explanation of the your choice of themes.
Submit to Moodle by the due date. Only submit using WORD or PDF format. See Proposal Template for
instructions. 13 marks
The proposal is optional – if you complete it, you will receive a grade and feedback for your proposed
project. It is worth 5% of your grade. The proposal is highly recommended. If you choose not to submit
a proposal or submit a late proposal, it will not be graded and the 3% shifts to the final project grade.
Final Project: A presentation of your story (with a map), displayed and created in an online space. This is not
an essay. There may be written, visual and/or verbal components depending on which media are used. You
must discuss the points above in images and words. 37 marks
Submission Procedure: refer to marking rubrics for details. Submit the weblink to your final project and
your script/text pdf. Ensure your link is not broken. Ensure your instructor is able to view your project
without needing to log into any website. If special instructions are needed, you MUST give a detailed set of
instructions as to how to access your project.
NOTE: You must reference any images or text that you borrow for the internet or anywhere.
Plagiarism will not be tolerated. Plagiarism = 0 mark on project or 0 in class (if second offense).
Examples of plagiarism include improper citation or lack of citation, copying information from another source
(textbook, website, etc), without proper IN-TEXT reference or copying an idea (or work) from another
students. If you are unsure about what plagiarism is, ask your instructor. Refer to the course syllabus
for the policy on AI use
The use of translators is prohibited for the final project and proposal. Please write in your own words.
The use of translators could result in a zero on the project AND academic misconduct.
