Wire-Splices-and-Joints

The document outlines classroom rules and objectives for a lesson on wire splices and joints in electrical wiring. It includes definitions, types of wire splices (such as Rat Tail, Y-Splice, and Aerial Tap), and emphasizes the importance of proper connections to prevent hazards. Activities and assessments are provided to engage students in learning about these electrical concepts.

WIRE SPLICES AND JOINTS

COMMON
WIRE SPLICES
AND JOINTS
Student Teacher: Aisah Sharima L.
Deca
What have you observed in the picture?
Objectives
At the end of this lesson you will be able to:

Identify the basic kinds of wire splices

and joints used in electrical wiring
installation. (Rat Tail or Pig Tail, Y-Splice,
Knotted Tap, Plain Tap Joint, Aerial Tap)
Unlocking of Difficult Terms:

Splice: the joining of two or more conductors

together.
Joint: refers to electrical wire connectors or
methods used to connect two or more wires.
Conductors: an object or type of material that
allows the flow of charge in one or more directions.
Tap: a connection of two wires of different sizes.
LET’S HAVE AN ACTIVITY!
ACTIVITY 1: PICTURE PUZZLE
Instructions: I’m going to group you into
5 groups and I'll give you 2 minutes to
puzzle the pictures and post them on the
board.
ACTIVITY 2: JUMBLED WORDS
Instructions: For the next activity, You will be given jumbled
words. After forming the word I’m going to use a wheel of
names to match the words you formed to the pictures.

GROUP 1: RTA LIAT

GROUP 2: Y-SPLIEC
GROUP 3: PNLIA APT
GROUP 4: KNTTEOD PAT
GROUP 5: AERILA APT
What is Wire
Splicing?
electrical connection joining two or more wires
that conduct electricity in a building.
the process of joining two or more electrical
wires together to create a continuous electrical
connection.
What is Joint?

joining electrical power cables can be as able

to twisting the wires and taping them or
more detailed using a variety of inline
adapters and connectors.
Why is wire splicing and
joints important?

Prevents short circuits and fire hazards.

Ensures a strong and durable
connection.
Improves current flow efficiency.
RAT TAIL OR PIG TAIL
This kind of joint is commonly used
to join two or more conductors
inside the junction box. It is
suitable for service where there is
no mechanical stress when wires
are to be connected in an outlet
box, switch, or conduit fitting.
Y-SPLICE

This method of wrapping is

generally used on small
cables and can all be
wrapped in one operation.
KNOTTED TAP

This is used where the tap

wire is under heavy tensile
stress.
PLAIN TAP JOINT

This is used where the tap

wire is under considerable
tensile stress circuit.
AERIAL TAP

This is used as a temporary tap

usually done in constructions sites.
The easy twist will facilitate tap wire
movement.
GROUP ACTIVITY!
This activity is called “WHAT AM I?”

Instructions: Each group will pick a paper. The

paper consists of definitions of the wire splices
and joints. All you have to do is to read the
definition with your group and the other group
will guess what splices and joints are them.
ASSESSMENT
Instructions:
Get ¼ sheet of paper and I’ll be showing you pictures of wire splices and
joints and write your answers on your paper. Identify the given wire splice or
joints given.

1. 2.
ASSESSMENT
3. 4. 5.
Assignment:

Provide at least three applications or uses

of the wire splices and joints that were
discussed today. To be collected next
meeting.
