Upgrade to Vision2009
In Vision2009, an AutomaticUpgrade tool has been added to simplify the upgrade from an older Vision
version (Vision2007R or Vision2008) to the new Vision2009 version.
From version 5.05.113.0, the AutomaticUpgrade tool manages the upgrade from an old
version of Vision2009 to a newer.
1. Uninstall Matrox: from Windows menu Programs/Matrox Imaging/ select Uninstall, then follow the
various steps until the system reboots
2. Check the Network connection to the GigE camera:
a. The Twincat connections must be unselected
b. In Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), the Ethernet Bus Network Interface card must use the address
: 1.1.1.2
3. From Windows menu Programs/Cognex/CVL/Utilities/, launch the Cognex GigE Vision Configuration
Tool.
a. The camera address must be set to : 1.1.1.1
b. The Performance drivers must be installed by clicking on the “Set Performance Driver”
button.
The detailed procedure for Network Connection settings and Cognex GigE Vision Configuration
Tool use is available in the pages 14 to 17 of the Plus head installation and calibration
procedure (IA-0028-Rev3.odt).
1. Install the recommended PLC version which is specified in the release note on chapter 7.1.
2. Create a backup of the old version installed by renaming the C:/VIT or C:/Program

• As the MSDE server has already been installed on the PC with Vision2008, the following message
will be displayed.
Later on, another message can appear to explain that the ModelDatabase have not been copied as they
already exist (they have also been installed by Vision2008).
If a problem appears when launching Vision2009, please check that the Environment variable
Vision_System_Root is correctly set to C:\VIT\.
To ensure correct AOI system functioning, the hardware configuration must be properly set when starting
Vision2009 for the first time.
A user friendly interface, accessible when starting VisionSetup.exe application, gives access to the AOI
system configuration.
V5 16 / 35
Upgrade to Vision2009
All settings are saved in the ViHardwareConfiguration_xxxx.ini file, where xxxx represents the
selected machine configuration.
With Vision2009, it is necessary to have the lighting offsets defined in the ViHardwareConfiguration_xxxx.ini
file.
To define the lighting offsets for the machine, please use the INSTALL VISION2007R ON PILOT MACHINE
v2.doc procedure.
Then input the lighting offsets in the IOManager/IO driver section of the VisionSetup:
Error Offset=lightType1=0|lightType2=0|lightType3=0|lightType4=0
V5 17 / 35
Upgrade to Vision2009
Once the software is installed, and lighting offsets are correctly configured, the calibration must be re-
done. Automatic calibration procedures have been introduced in Vision 2009.
Following value XXX written on the Grey tool (GL Tool) enter circular green and circular blue as per below
chart:
V5 18 / 35
Upgrade to Vision2009
For example:
For a grey tool of 146
Green circular value is: 185
Blue circular value is: 249
The type of calibration used (manual or automatic) is configurable in the [Calibration grey calibration]
section of the ViHardwareXConfiguration_xxxx_calib.ini file.
[Grey calibration]
Adjustment parameter (0: manual method, 1: camera exposure time, 2:automatic method) = 2
When a grey level calibration is made, do not open the diaphragm even if measures seem to
be incorrect.
Try first to click on “Auto Calibration” button: the calibration should pass.

of the ini file.
V5 20 / 35
Upgrade to Vision2009
• The #3 parameter ‘Use new focus calibration’ must be set to ‘1’ (default value). If it’s set to ‘0’
(zero), the focus optimizer is not activated and the old focus adjustment method is used.
• If one of those values has been modified, it’s necessary to restart the vision software.
• In the vision software, start the focus calibration in ‘Tool\Calibration’ and press ‘Focus’ button. The
bellow window is displayed. In this window, 2 parts are displayed, the ‘A’ part is to move the axis
and the ‘B’ one is for the focus itself.
In a first strep, position the axis as shown on the bellow picture. The red vertical line must be aligned with
the black scare and the red circle must be tangent with the bottom side of the black scare.
V5 21 / 35
Upgrade to Vision2009
Once the camera is in a correct position, click on the ‘Start’ button. Several lines are displayed on the
screen:
- Blue line: indicate the theoretical focus position;
- Orange lines: show the min and max focus tolerances;
- Red or green line: shows the real focus position. Red color means bad focus and green color means go
focus.
If the focus is not good, ie the red line is outside the two orange lines, it’s necessary to adjust the focus by
moving up or down the lens/camera group. Nota: the picture above shows ViNO lens but it’s exactly the
same think with ViSO lens.
V5 22 / 35
Upgrade to Vision2009
The above picture shows a good focus. Once the focus ok, tighten all screws and click ‘Stop’ and ‘Exit’
button.
For more details about this calibration procedure, please refer to the Perform Head
installation and calibration procedure.
The same thing happens for the ModelDatabase files: as they have already been installed and used with
Vision2008 (for MatchMaker among other things), they will not be replaced by the Vision2009 setup.
Consequently, it is necessary to configure manually the database settings after the upgrade from Vision2008
to Vision2009:
• Launch Vision2009
• Go to menu Tools/Models database: the Model Correspondance Table configuration window
appears.
• Click on the Database Settings button: the Model Database popup appears.
• In this window, the following parameters must be set:
- the name of the MS-SQL server in which the Model Database is stored (by default, it is set to
localhost by the setup)
- the login parameters (user name and password) required to access this server (by default, it
should be set to User ‘sa’ and Password ‘VIT’).
- the name of the database used as the Models Database.
• Then click on the OK button to connect to the selected database. The user will be returned to the
Model Correspondence table configuration window, where a Database connection OK message
should be displayed in green.
• Click on the Add button to add the VIT Standard Library located under the C:/VIT folder to the
Correspondence Table.
- The Database list box only displays databases available on the selected server.
- By default, Vision2008 and Vision2009 setups are installing a database named
ModelsDatabase on the server ‘localhost’.
V5 23 / 35
Upgrade to Vision2009
- On the Supervisor PC, launch the Supervisor.exe located under the C:/VIT/ folder
- In the .INI file creation window, define the folder where the images sent by the AOI machine after
inspection should be stored.
- Then select the database settings: by default, an access database has been created and attached
to the server.
- Then define the archive settings and click on the OK button: the Supervisor main screen appears
and the application is correctly configured.
We highly recommend to install the same software version on Vision, Supervisor and
DefectViewer tools.
V5 24 / 35
Upgrade to Vision2009
As customized configuration files must not been overwritten by empty files, the existing C:/VIT/Config
folder will never been replaced by new files coming from the new setup.
It means that major changes made on these configuration files, that go together with major changes made
on the software, won’t be applied. This may cause problem at Vision2009 startup.
To avoid problems at Vision2009 startup, we recommend to rename the former C:/VIT folder into
C:/VIT_xxxx before the setup of the Vision2009 version is launched.
Please refer to the Maintenance Manual for the detailed PLC upgrade process.
In order to avoid conflicts with other parts, the IP address for the PLC network connection
must be changed to:
192.168.30.x where x is different from 1
Problems may appear at Vision2009 startup if the installed PLC version and the PLC network address do
not match these requirements.
Please refer to the chapter 2.1.6 for the complete setup installation procedure.
V5 25 / 35
