Upgrade to Vision2009

Upgrade from Vision2008 or Vision2007R to Vision2009

1 Automatic upgrade (default)

In Vision2009, an AutomaticUpgrade tool has been added to simplify the upgrade from an older Vision
version (Vision2007R or Vision2008) to the new Vision2009 version.

From version 5.05.113.0, the AutomaticUpgrade tool manages the upgrade from an old
version of Vision2009 to a newer.

1.1 Additional steps for AutomaticUpgrade from Vision2008 on 3K Plus machines

For 3K Plus machines, additional steps are necessary before the AutomaticUpgrade tool can be used:

1. Uninstall Matrox: from Windows menu Programs/Matrox Imaging/ select Uninstall, then follow the
various steps until the system reboots
2. Check the Network connection to the GigE camera:
a. The Twincat connections must be unselected
b. In Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), the Ethernet Bus Network Interface card must use the address
: 1.1.1.2
3. From Windows menu Programs/Cognex/CVL/Utilities/, launch the Cognex GigE Vision Configuration
Tool.
a. The camera address must be set to : 1.1.1.1
b. The Performance drivers must be installed by clicking on the “Set Performance Driver”
button.

Then the common steps can be performed.

The detailed procedure for Network Connection settings and Cognex GigE Vision Configuration
Tool use is available in the pages 14 to 17 of the Plus head installation and calibration

4. Then click on the Set zero machine button.

.2.1.8.4 Calibrate the machine

Once the software is installed, and lighting offsets are correctly configured, the calibration must be re-
done. Automatic calibration procedures have been introduced in Vision 2009.

The grey level calibration parameters appear in the ViHardwareConfiguration_xxxx_Calib.ini

file as soon as Vision2009 is launched for the first time.

Please make sure to reopen the ViHardwareConfiguration_xxxx_Calib.ini file after Vision2009

is launched to be able to modify the Grey Level and Focus calibration parameters.

Identify the type of lens used on the machine

Two different lenses can be used in the machines. To follow the calibration steps bellow, it’s very
important to know witch is the used lens type.
The ViSO lens is equipped with a metallic plate and 5 screws as shown
on the bellow picture. This is not the case for the ViNO lens.

Set the software parameters

Open the ‘ViHardwareConfiguration_Vixxx_xxxx_Calib.ini’ file located in the folder C:\VIT\Config (where
Vixx_xxx represent the type of machine used and the corresponding head) and go to the L1 to L4 reference
lines (see screenshot below).

Choose the right colors (cf. above picture)

L1 = Axial green
L2 = Axial red
L3 = Circular green
L4 = Circular blue

Following value XXX written on the Grey tool (GL Tool) enter circular green and circular blue as per below
chart:

V5 18 / 35
Upgrade to Vision2009

For example:
For a grey tool of 146
Green circular value is: 185
Blue circular value is: 249

Check the tool angle

• Start vision software.

• In Tools\Maintenance menu, click on ‘test machine’ then on icon ‘Calibration’ icon.
• Adjust Glass tool angle in order for it to be included between -0.001° and +0.001°. To do that, tap
on the tool’s edges to make it turn into the conveyor. After each tool angle modification, click
‘Measure’ to check the new angle.

Automatic Grey Level calibration

An automatic grey level calibration has been introduced in this version. It is recommended for all heads,
except for those using the Hitachi KPF100 camera.
By default, the Automatic grey level calibration mode is selected.

The type of calibration used (manual or automatic) is configurable in the [Calibration grey calibration]
section of the ViHardwareXConfiguration_xxxx_calib.ini file.
[Grey calibration]
Adjustment parameter (0: manual method, 1: camera exposure time, 2:automatic method) = 2

// 0 = manual calibration active

// 2 = auto calibration active

When a grey level calibration is made, do not open the diaphragm even if measures seem to
be incorrect.
Try first to click on “Auto Calibration” button: the calibration should pass.

V5 19 / 35
Upgrade to Vision2009

Start Vision software and go in Tools\Calibration\Grey levels and click ‘Auto calibration’.

If the ‘Automatic setting has failed’ message

is displayed, click ‘OK’ and open little bite
the diaphragm. Never go outside the
hatching part.

Then restart the grey calibration.

Once the calibration achieved, ‘Calibration OK’ message is displayed, click

‘OK’.

Click ‘OK’ to close the ‘Light adjustment’ window. The calibration is finish.

Automatic Focus calibration

By default, the Automatic focus calibration mode is selected.

• Open C:\Program Files\ViTechnology\VisionXXX\Config\ViHardwareConfiguration_XXXX_Calib.ini file

and go to the [Focus Optimization] chapter.

• Regarding the used lens, the values indicated in the bellow table must be set in ‘1’ and ‘2’ position
of the ini file.

V5 20 / 35
Upgrade to Vision2009

• The #3 parameter ‘Use new focus calibration’ must be set to ‘1’ (default value). If it’s set to ‘0’
(zero), the focus optimizer is not activated and the old focus adjustment method is used.

• If one of those values has been modified, it’s necessary to restart the vision software.

• In the vision software, start the focus calibration in ‘Tool\Calibration’ and press ‘Focus’ button. The
bellow window is displayed. In this window, 2 parts are displayed, the ‘A’ part is to move the axis
and the ‘B’ one is for the focus itself.

In a first strep, position the axis as shown on the bellow picture. The red vertical line must be aligned with
the black scare and the red circle must be tangent with the bottom side of the black scare.

V5 21 / 35
Upgrade to Vision2009

Once the camera is in a correct position, click on the ‘Start’ button. Several lines are displayed on the
screen:
- Blue line: indicate the theoretical focus position;
- Orange lines: show the min and max focus tolerances;
- Red or green line: shows the real focus position. Red color means bad focus and green color means go
focus.

If the focus is not good, ie the red line is outside the two orange lines, it’s necessary to adjust the focus by
moving up or down the lens/camera group. Nota: the picture above shows ViNO lens but it’s exactly the
same think with ViSO lens.

V5 22 / 35

The above picture shows a good focus. Once the focus ok, tighten all screws and click ‘Stop’ and ‘Exit’
button.

For more details about this calibration procedure, please refer to the Perform Head
installation and calibration procedure.

.2.1.8.5 Configure the MSDE settings

Because the MSDE server has already been installed by the Vision2008 setup, it is not installed by the
Vision2009 setup.

The same thing happens for the ModelDatabase files: as they have already been installed and used with
Vision2008 (for MatchMaker among other things), they will not be replaced by the Vision2009 setup.

Consequently, it is necessary to configure manually the database settings after the upgrade from Vision2008
to Vision2009:
• Launch Vision2009
• Go to menu Tools/Models database: the Model Correspondance Table configuration window
appears.
• Click on the Database Settings button: the Model Database popup appears.
• In this window, the following parameters must be set:
- the name of the MS-SQL server in which the Model Database is stored (by default, it is set to
localhost by the setup)
- the login parameters (user name and password) required to access this server (by default, it
should be set to User ‘sa’ and Password ‘VIT’).
- the name of the database used as the Models Database.

• Then click on the OK button to connect to the selected database. The user will be returned to the
Model Correspondence table configuration window, where a Database connection OK message
should be displayed in green.

• Click on the Add button to add the VIT Standard Library located under the C:/VIT folder to the
Correspondence Table.

- The Database list box only displays databases available on the selected server.
- By default, Vision2008 and Vision2009 setups are installing a database named
ModelsDatabase on the server ‘localhost’.

V5 23 / 35
Upgrade to Vision2009

.2.1.8.6 Configure the Supervisor

The Supervisor software can be installed with the Vision2009 setup. The configuration is done during the
first startup. To configure the Supervisor software, please do the following:

- On the Supervisor PC, launch the Supervisor.exe located under the C:/VIT/ folder
- In the .INI file creation window, define the folder where the images sent by the AOI machine after
inspection should be stored.
- Then select the database settings: by default, an access database has been created and attached
to the server.
- Then define the archive settings and click on the OK button: the Supervisor main screen appears
and the application is correctly configured.

We highly recommend to install the same software version on Vision, Supervisor and
DefectViewer tools.

.2.1.8.7 Configure the Repair station

The DefectViewer software can be installed with the Vision2009 setup. The configuration is done during the
first startup. To configure the Repair software, please do the following:
- On the Supervisor PC, launch the repair.exe located under the C:/VIT folder
- In the Folders Configuration window, define the folders where data should be stored
- Then in the Main buttons menu, define the sanction and icon associated to each of the general
screen command key
- Then in the Details buttons menu, define the sanction and icon associated to each of the details
screen command key
- Then in the Network Access Configuration window, define the Server name in which the Supervisor
database is stored, and click on the OK button: the Repair main screen appears and the application
is correctly configured.

2.2 For a machine using another head

The main steps to upgrade an AOI machine from Vision2008 to Vision2009 are the following:

2. Backup the current Vision2008 folder (as described in chapter 2.1.3)

3. Upgrade the Etel drivers to ETEL PCI Board 2 (as described in chapter 2.1.4)
4. Upgrade the PLC version (as described in chapter 2.1.5)
5. Install Vision2009 (as described in chapter 2.1.6)

V5 24 / 35
Upgrade to Vision2009

3 Manual upgrade from Vision2007R to Vision2009 (if AutomaticUpgrade fails)

3.1 Main steps for all the machines

The main steps to upgrade an AOI machine from a Vision2007R version to another Vision2009 version are the
following:

1. Rename the current C:/ProgramFiles/ViTechnology/Vision2007R folder

2. Upgrade the PLC version
3. Launch the setup for the new Vision2009 version
4. Adjust the machine configuration
5. Import the machine parameters
6. Copy the existing calibration files
7. Manual calibration

3.1.1 Rename the current C:/ProgramFiles/ViTechnology/Vision2007R folder

The Vision2007R versions are installed by default under the C:/ProgramFiles/ViTechnology/Vision2007R
folder. However, if the user has modified this installation path, a C:/VIT folder may already exist at the
moment when the Vision2009 setup is launched.

As customized configuration files must not been overwritten by empty files, the existing C:/VIT/Config
folder will never been replaced by new files coming from the new setup.
It means that major changes made on these configuration files, that go together with major changes made
on the software, won’t be applied. This may cause problem at Vision2009 startup.

To avoid problems at Vision2009 startup, we recommend to rename the former C:/VIT folder into
C:/VIT_xxxx before the setup of the Vision2009 version is launched.

3.1.2 Upgrade the PLC version

Install the recommended PLC version which is specified in the release note on chapter 7.1.

Please refer to the Maintenance Manual for the detailed PLC upgrade process.

In order to avoid conflicts with other parts, the IP address for the PLC network connection
must be changed to:
192.168.30.x where x is different from 1

Problems may appear at Vision2009 startup if the installed PLC version and the PLC network address do
not match these requirements.

3.1.3 Setup for the new Vision2009 version

The new version of Vision2009 is ready to be installed under the C:/VIT folder.

Please refer to the chapter 2.1.6 for the complete setup installation procedure.

3.1.4 Adjust the machine configuration

From the VisionSetup, select the machine configuration to use, as described in chapter 2.1.8

V5 25 / 35
Upgrade to Vision2009

3.1.5 Import the machine parameters

In Vision2009, the VisionSetup interface has been introduced to easily manage the machine configuration
and customization.
All the modifications made by the user from this VisionSetup interface are stored under the
ViHardwareConfiguration_xxxx.ini file on the C:/VIT/Config folder.

As main changes may have been applied to the default ViHardwareConfiguration_xxxx.ini files, the user
must merge its customized parameters into the new version of the file using the Import Parameters
function.

To importthe customized parameter into the machine configuration file, please:

- launch the VisionSetup.exe tool
- Click on the Import Parameters button located at the bottom of the screen
- Select the ViHardwareConfiguration_xxxx.ini file for Vision2007R version on which customized
parameters have been set: the list of customized parameters retrieved in the selected file will
be displayed
- The user can then select which parameters needs to be imported in the new Vision2009
configuration file, before clicking on the Import button.
All the selected Parameters will be automatically imported in the new Vision2009
ViHardwareConfiguration_xxxx.ini file.

3.1.6 Copy the existing calibration file

The following file does not change between Vision2007R and Vision2009. Consequently, it can be copied
manually from the C:/ProgramFiles/ViTechnology/Vision2007R/Config folder to the new C:/VIT/Config
folder:
- the calib.map file

3.1.7 Manual calibration

As the corresponding files cannot be directly copied from the previous Vision2007R version to the new
Vision2009 version, the following operations must be done manually:
- Set the zero machine, as described in chapter .2.1.8.3
- Calibrate the machine, as described in chapter .2.1.8.4

Once these steps are done, Vision2009 can be launched.

Manual upgrade from Vision2009 to Vision2009

1 Main steps for all the machines

The main steps to upgrade an AOI machine from a Vision2009 version to another Vision2009 version are the
following:

1. Rename the current C:/VIT folder

2. Upgrade the PLC version
3. Launch the setup for the new Vision2009 version
4. Import the machine parameters
5. Copy the existing calibration files

1.1 Rename the current C:/VIT folder

The Vision2009 versions are installed by default under the C:/VIT folder. Consequently, if a version of
Vision2009 has already been installed at the moment the Vision2009 setup is launched, a C:/VIT folder
already exists.

To avoid problems at Vision2009 startup, we recommend to rename the former C:/VIT folder into
C:/VIT_xxxx before the setup of the new Vision2009 version is launched.

1.2 Upgrade the PLC version

Install the recommended PLC version which is specified in the release note on chapter 7.1.

Please refer to the Maintenance Manual for the detailed PLC upgrade process.

In order to avoid conflicts with other parts, the IP address for the PLC network connection
must be changed to:
192.168.30.x where x is different from 1

Problems may appear at Vision2009 startup if the installed PLC version and the PLC network address do
not match these requirements.

1.3 Upgrade the ACS version

Install the recommended ACS version which is specified in the release note on chapter 7.2.
Please refer to the ACS Manual Upgrade chapter below for the detailed ACS upgrade process.

1.4 Setup for the new Vision2009 version

The new version of Vision2009 is now ready to be installed.

Please refer to the chapter 2.1.6 for the complete setup installation procedure.

1.5 Import the machine parameters

- Select the reference configuration file on which customized parameters have been set: the list
of customized parameters retrieved in the selected file will be displayed
- The user can then select which parameters needs to be imported in the new configuration file,
before clicking on the Import button.
All the selected Parameters will be automatically imported in the new
ViHardwareConfiguration_xxxx.ini file.

1.6 Copy the existing calibration files

The following files do not change between one version of Vision2009 and the others. Consequently, they can
be copied manually from the C:/VIT_xxx/Config folder to the new C:/VIT/Config folder:
- the calib.map file
- the defaultvalue.ini file
- the MachineRelease Vision2009.PRM file
- the AvCorrespondanceTable.ini file
- the calibration files:
o Release_M_Calibration_Distorsion.dat
o Release_M_ Calibration_Grey_Level.dat
o Release_M_ Calibration_Pixel.dat
o ViHardwareConfiguration_xxxx_calib.ini file
- If the 3DSelective option is installed on the machine, the following file can also be copied:
o CalibTreatmentCoplanarity.dat file

The following file can also be copied from the C:/VIT_xxx/ folder to the new C:/VIT/ folder:
- the vit.cfg file

If Supervisor and DefectViewer are used, the following files can also be copied from the C:/VIT_xxx/ folder
to the new C:/VIT/ folder:
- The ConfigSupervisor.ini file
- The ConfigDefectViewer.ini file

Once these steps are done, Vision2009 can be launched.

In previous versions, 2 different configuration files (DefectViewer.prm and

DefectViewer1.prm) were created for the DefectViewer when 2 lines of buttons were used.
From version 5.05.113.0, the DefectViewer1.prm only must be imported and must be
renamed into DefectViewer.prm.
