Good afternoon class
Good morning, Sir.

Before you take your seats, kindly arrange

the chairs properly and pick up all the

4. Setting of Class Standards

Before we start our lesson, there are
some few rules that you need to follow
inside the classroom.
1. Sit properly.
2. Raise your hand if you want to speak.
3. Listen to the teacher carefully.
4. Participate.
5. Respect everyone.

Are we clear, class?

Yes, Sir.

Before we finally delve into our lesson for
today, let’s have a review first about our
previous discussion.

Last topic we discussed about finding Yes, Sir.

We have 4 criteria and those are?

4. Currency. It is important to

rapidly..

B. Motivation GAME: PASS THE MESSAGE

I will divide this class into 3 groups. Each

group has to form a line.

Round 1
John said, "I will be going to the store
later."

Round 2
Mary asked, "Can you help me with my
homework?"

Round 3
John said that he would be going to the
store later.

Round 4
Mary asked if I could help her with her
homework.
C. Lesson So, what is a direct speech? Kindly read
Proper its definition on the screen, Nicole.
Direct Speech repeats
exactly what someone said
or quotes the same word
spoken.
Thank you, Nicole. So, it says here on the
screen that direct speech repeats exactly
what someone said.

Let’s proceed to the example to better

understand the direct speech. Kindly read
the example, everyone.
(Students will read the
example in unison.)
Kobe said, “You shouldn’t
settle for less, Karsen.”
Thank you.

So, in this example, we can see how it

repeats what Kobe said. Remember class
that direct speech is a way of quoting
someone's exact words. It's like hearing
their voice directly, without changes. This
is often done to make a story more
interesting, to show how someone feels,
or to emphasize a particular point.

So, based on the example what can you

say about it?
(Students will raise their
hands.)

Yes, Ace?
Based on the example, the
narrator repeated what
Kobe said using quotation
marks.

Excellent! Thank you, Ace.

So, another example is, Peter told

Behati, "We should let the sky cross
our paths again." Just like the first
example, it also repeats what the speaker
said.

We can also see that direct speech often

uses quotation marks to highlight the
speaker’s message.

Now, can you give me another example of

direct speech?
(Students will raise their
hands.)
Yes, Myrna?
She said, “I’m going to the
beach tomorrow.”

Very Good. Thank you, Myrna.

Are there any questions/clarifications

before we proceed to the next one?
None, Ma’am.

Let’s move on to the next one, the

reported speech. Kindly read its definition Reported Speech (Indirect
on the screen, everyone. Speech) is narrating or
retelling what the speaker
said in the past and so there
are changes in the actual
words

Thank you.

So, unlike the direct speech, reported

speech is a way of conveying what
someone said without using their exact
words. It’s like telling someone else a
story about what someone else said and
because of that, we can see how the
actual word changes.

Like for example, Kobe said to Karsen

that she shouldn't settle for less. In this
example, we can see how the words
changed — the you in the direct speech
becomes she in the indirect speech.

Is that clear, class?

Yes, sir.

Okay, good. Now, will you please

transform our 2nd example in direct speech Kurt: Kobe said, “You
and make it a reported speech, Kurt? shouldn’t settle for less,
Karsen.”

Alright. Thank you, Kurt.

Now, our 2nd example is, Peter told

Behati, “We should let the sky cross
our paths again.” And if we are going to
transform it in reported speech it looks like
this, Peter told Behati that they should
let the sky cross their paths again. In
this example, we can see how the
pronouns we and our in the direct speech
changes into they and their in the
reported speech.
Yes, Sir.
Do you understand, class?

Now, can you give me an example of Jonamich: My friend told me

reported speech, Jonamich? that she saw a movie the
night before.

Very good. Thank you, Jonamich.

Are there any questions/clarifications? None, Sir.

Okay. Let’s continue.

Remember, that both speeches give
information or repeat a statement that
another person said.
These two also use a reporting verb such
as said, told, asked, etc.
None, Sir.
Do you have any questions so far?

Okay. So, I have a question. Do you think

these two have also differences from one (Students will raise their
another? hands.)

Yes, Sir.
Yes, Kristine Joy?

Krisitine Joy: The two are

How do you say so, Kristine Joy? different from each other,
ma’am because in direct
speech, we use quotation
marks, while in indirect
speech we do not use it.

Okay, very good. Thank you, Kristine Joy.

So, she said that they also have their
differences. Definitely, yes. If they have
similarities, they also have differences.
There are 5 differences between the two
and these are the following:
1. Direct speech has quotation
marks; reported speech does not
use quotation marks.
2. In reported speech, the pronoun
often changes. For example, in the
no. 1 sentence above with direct
speech, the pronoun you is used,
whereas the sentence with reported
speech uses the pronoun she.
3. In reported speech, the word that is
often used after said, but that is
optional.
4. In reported speech, the time
words being used may also
change if the report will be given at
a different time. Yes, Sir.
Do you follow, class?

Okay, good. Let’s continue.

For example, the time words last week in
the direct speech changes to the week
before in the reported speech.
5. The verb in reported speech
changes in tense.

None, Sir.

Do you have any questions/clarifications,

class?
D. Application Now, let's see if you really understand our
lesson. Let's proceed to our assessment.

an interview and you have to choose who
will be the interviewer and who will be the
interviewee. Each pair should have at
least one available mobile phone because
you will use it to record the answer of your
interviewee.

Do you understand, class?

Yes, Sir.

Okay, very good. Now, the goal is to show

respect and understand other’s
perspectives by conducting an interview.
The questions will be given by the teacher.
You have to do it for 5 minutes.

Copy the table below on a whole sheet of

paper and list down the answers in
column 2. Make sure to write the answers
in direct speech. Once you’re in done,
take a photo of your answer and upload it

Are you done, class?

Okay, very good. You may now pass your

E. Generaliza Again, what is the direct speech?

tion (Students will raise their
hands.)

Yes, Aevriel?
Direct Speech repeats
exactly what someone said
or quotes the same word
spoken. It often uses
quotation marks.

For example, Mary said,

“I’m so excited for my
birthday party.”

Very good, Aevriel. Thank you.

What about the reported speech?

(Students will raise their
hands.)

Yes, Katrina?

Reported Speech (Indirect

Speech) is narrating or
retelling what the speaker
said in the past and so there
are changes in the actual
words. It also uses the word
“that” after the word
“said”, but it is optional.

Very good. Thank you.

I'm so glad that you've learned something

from our discussion today.

Now, let's have another activity.

F. Evaluation INSTRUCTIONS: For your last activity
