narrative on electronic device

The laptop received for repair was not booting, with initial diagnostics indicating potential issues with the RAM, monitor, BIOS, or hardware. After multiple attempts to troubleshoot and clean the components, the device surprisingly booted up after being fully charged, but subsequent boot attempts failed, suggesting possible BIOS issues. Minor repairs included cleaning and securing hardware, and while the device is currently operational, its reliability remains uncertain due to suspected BIOS damage.

REPAIR AND DIAGNOSIS

Upon receiving the unit, the laptop is not booting up as the client had told. The power indicator
at the left side of the device shows that it is turned ON however the power indicator located at the
power button is turned OFF. This with the screen not turning on indicates that there is something wrong
either with its RAM module, Monitor, BIOS or a hardware glitch in which this device already undergone
hardware upgrade in the past as the client told.

Upon diagnosing the possible malfunctions of the device I immediately opened the RAM module
compartment and unplugged the RAM module. After some minor cleaning I returned the RAM module
and tried to boot the system. Unfortunately the device is still not booting. On to the next step, I checked
the Internal Hardware for visual inspection and thankfully all hardware is intact aside from the M.2 SSD
module installed which doesn’t had a screw in place. I performed a quick connect and disconnect of
both the HDD and M.2 SSD Disk Drives and attempted to boot the system. Unfortunately the device is
still not booting up. To my final attempt I dissembled all of the hardware modules in the device which
includes the RAM module, M.2 SSD, HDD, Wi-Fi Module, Battery Module, Fan and the Motherboard as a
whole. On a closer look of these hardware, there is no sign of burn or any kind of liquid spillage and are
all intact. Upon cleaning each of the module, and the frame I the reassembled and attempted yet
another boot up procedure. Unfortunately the device seems not to respond with the issues still in place.
Upon the failed boot up attempt I let it sit and charge the battery indicator showed it is full. Surprisingly
after being fully charged, the device booted up on the first attempt.

After a successful booting I performed a cloud storage backup especially the important files in
the device to the account of the client and optimize the system for ease in startup of the OS. After which
I conducted a restart of the OS but to my surprise the device is not again booting up. This issue was also
told by the client in which the device is properly booting sometimes and not booting most of the times.
After several attempts on booting up the device which ended up not booting at all. This brought to my
mind that there might be an anomaly in the BIOS of the device wherein all of my failed attempt the BIOS
indication didn’t pop up. To fix this, a BIOS flashing is a must but not recommended due to it being a
risky move when most of the attempt in booting the device ended in BIOS indication not appearing. BIOS
flashing in this device could lead in BIOS failure and/or corruption which will render the device useless
unless the BIOS is replaced.
Upon the endless booting attempts, there is a time when the battery module is removed,
drained the device of possible static build-up and ran it only plugged without the battery module.
Surprisingly, it booted up but just once. After which all succeeding attempts ended in failure after that.

After all the attempt of repairing and failed boot ups of this device I fixed up all the screws and
ready to throw in the towel. Miraculously the device was booting smoothly up after all what I thought is
a failed repair. After confirming the reliability of the boot up of the device I ran windows update to keep
the OS up to date.

Though there was no major repair done on the device, cleaning was made externally particularly
on the frame, heat sink and fan of the CPU in which dust had accumulated. A screw is placed on the
missing one in the M.2 SSD to make it intact. The startup items of the device was optimized and the OS
was updated. Time will only tell in which this device’s issues will pop up again, since I could only
speculate base on the behavior of the device that the BIOS of this device is somewhat damage and is
beyond my capability to repair. Whereas, the reliability of this device is in the middle but upon a
successful boot up this device will perform well in its class.
