A disaster is a sudden event causing significant disruption, which can be natural (like earthquakes and floods) or man-made (such as industrial accidents and terrorism). The document outlines various types of disasters, including natural disasters like floods, cyclones, and earthquakes, as well as man-made disasters such as nuclear and chemical incidents. It also details the components of disaster response, represented by the acronym DISASTER.

Disasters

what is disaster?
A disaster is a sudden and severe event that causes significant
disruption and damage, impacting communities, infrastructure,
and the environment. It can be natural, like earthquakes or floods,
or man-made, such as industrial accidents or terrorism. Disasters
often result in loss of life, economic hardship, and long-term
recovery challenges

-Natural disasters are catastrophic events Man-made disasters have an

caused by natural phenomena, as opposed to
element of human intent,
man-made ones, that result in significant loss of
life or damage to the environment, private negligence, or error involving a
property, or public infrastructure. Earthquakes, failure of a man-made system, as
landslides, and other events that start at the opposed to natural disasters
surface of the globe or deep below it can all
contribute to the formation of a natural disaster.
resulting from natural hazards.
Although natural disasters can occur anywhere
on Earth, some disaster types are more common
or restricted to geographic areas.

Natural disasters TORNADOES

Tornadoes are outgrowths of

powerful thunderstorms that
appear as rotating, funnel-
shaped clouds. They extend
from a thunderstorm to the
ground with violent winds
that average 30 miles per
hour. They can also vary in
speed dramatically from
being stationary to 70 miles
per hour
Volcanic Eruption
A volcano is that mountain with a vent at its
top through which molten rock and other
gases emit. When pressure from the gas and
molten rock is much, eruptions occur.
Volcanic eruptions can both be subtle and
explosive and create dangerous lava flows,
poisonous gases, and flying rocks and ash.
Many volcanic eruptions are also
accompanied by other natural hazards, such
as earthquakes, landslides, debris flows,
flash floods, fires, and tsunamis. If you find
yourself near a volcano, active or dormant,
be prepared to act on short notice.
Earthquake
An earthquake is the
movement of the Earth's
plates, that causes a sudden
shake on the ground surface,
which may range between
some seconds to minutes. In
seconds, the mild initial shaking
may strengthen and become
violent. Earthquakes occur
without any notice and can
strike anytime of the year.
Tsunami Massive waves known as
tsunamis are produced
underwater by volcanic
eruptions or earthquakes.
The height of tsunami
waves does not rise
significantly when they are
far below the surface of the
ocean.
Flood
The most frequent types of natural
disasters are floods—overflow of water
covering what is usually dry land. Many
times, it is caused by waters of heavy
rainfall, rapid snowmelt, and most
times, it is a storm surge from a
tropical cyclone or tsunami in a coastal
area.
CYCLONE
Cyclones, Hurricanes, and
Typhoons are all severe
windstorms with winds over 119
kilometers per hour or 74 MPH.
These windstorms can be formed
either because of a merging of
warm and cold winds over the
ocean after a thunderstorm or
when conflicting areas of wind
pressure differ. For these reasons,
they happen most often in summer,
especially between the months of
June to November.
DROUGHT
In the natural climate cycle, a drought
is an extended dry spell that can
happen anywhere in the world. It is a
calamity with a gradual start that is
typified by a deficiency of precipitation
leading to a scarcity of water. A
drought can have detrimental effects
on the environment, economy, health,
and agriculture.

NUCLEAR DISASTER
·The International Atomic Energy
Agency describes a nuclear and
radiation accident as "an event that
has led to significant consequences
to people, the environment, or the
facility. Examples include reactor
core meltdowns, large-scale
radioactive leaks into the
environment, or lethal effects to
individuals."
CHEMICAL DISASTER
An uncontrolled release of a
dangerous substance that could
endanger the environment and
public health is called a chemical
event. Chemical incidents can be
caused by unintentional or
deliberate actions, as well as by
natural occurrences.
RADIOLOGICAL
EMERGENCIES
Radiation emergencies are unusual
occurrences or circumstances that
call for immediate action to reduce
the risk of radioactive fallout or its
detrimental effects on people's lives,
property, and the environment.
TERRORISM
The use of force or violence against people or
property in violation of criminal laws for the
purposes of intimidation, coercion, or ransom is
considered terrorism. Threats are a common
tool used by terrorists to instill fear in the public
in an effort to persuade people that their
government is helpless to stop terrorism and to
gain rapid attention for their causes. Threats of
terrorism, assassinations, kidnappings,
hijackings, bomb scares and explosions,
cyberattacks (computer-based), and the use of
chemical, biological, and nuclear weapons are
all considered acts of terrorism
