Writing Essays

 Essays or any written fully complete text in English typically consists of

three main parts: the introduction, the body, and the conclusion.
 The introduction is the first one or two paragraphs in each essay. It consists
of the topic sentence alongside a few other supporting sentences or main
ideas that you’re going to discuss in your essay.
 The topic sentence is a sentence that expresses the main idea of the
paragraph or essay in which it occurs. It basically gives the reader the
general idea that the writer is going to express and tease the reader just
enough for them to keep on reading. Each topic sentence in each essay or
paragraph is usually supported by a few “supporting sentences”.
 The body is usually the main part of every essay or paragraph; it consists of
the supporting sentences in which you’re going to elaborate on your main
ideas and back up your claims.
 The body is usually the longest part of every paragraph or essay
 Supporting sentences are sentences with information that supports the
main idea or claim you’ve made in your topic sentences. You will find
supporting sentences in the middle of a paragraph – after the topic
sentence, and right before a concluding sentence or transition.
 The main job of supporting sentences is to give new information and
elaborate further on the ideas or claims that the writer has stated in the
introduction of his or her essay or paragraph.
 There is usually a few supporting sentences in each paragraph who should
all be connected and have cohesion and coherence in order to lead to a
valuable, well-constructed paragraph or essay.
 In essay writing, you can give each “main idea” its own paragraph with its
own topic sentence, supporting sentences and conclusion sentence.
 The conclusion is usually a sum up or a restatement of all the main points
that have been discussed in the supporting sentences in the body.
