Learning Objectives:
Introduction: To start the lesson, engage students with a short discussion about the
importance of literary elements in creative non-fiction writing. Highlight how these
elements can enhance the reader's experience and convey deeper meaning in the text.
Activity 1: Literary Elements Scavenger Hunt (20 minutes): Divide students into
small groups and provide them with a list of literary elements to find in various
creative non-fiction texts. Each group will be tasked with identifying examples of
these elements and explaining how they enhance the writing. Encourage students to
collaborate and discuss their findings with the class.
Analyzing Literary Elements in Practice (20 minutes): Next, have students read a
short creative non-fiction piece and identify specific literary elements within the text.
Lead a class discussion on how these elements are used by the author to convey
meaning and create a strong impact on the reader. Encourage students to share their
interpretations and insights.

Literary elements are the common structural elements that every story needs to be
successful. The seven elements of literature are character, setting, perspective,
plot, conflict, theme, and voice. These elements are the building blocks of good
stories because if any are missing, the story will feel incomplete and unsatisfying
