Sustainable development
Sustainable development is referred to as the idea that human beings
should sustain by meeting their basic needs, while also making sure that the future generations are able to meet their basic needs. It seeks to balance the social and economic needs of current and future human generations while preserving or preventing undue damage to the natural environment12. The concept of sustainable development can be also referred to as environmentally sustainable economic growth. Sustainable development looks to create a balance between the economic, environmental and social needs.
The world is currently facing extremely difficult challenges to sustainable
development and environmental management. The food crisis, energy crisis, financial crisis, a global recession and, of course, the looming climate crisis are all interconnected and the only way of addressing them effectively is through integrated solutions.

The Sustainable Development Goals' current status: A mere 12% of the
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are currently on track or as the newest Global Sustainable Development Report 2023 summarizes progress on the 2030 Agenda it is a "stagnation in the face of multiple crises". The goal of the summit was to "provide high-level political guidance on transformative and accelerated actions" to achieve the SDGs by 2030.
