INTRODUCTION

Summer Camp INGENIOUS 2021 is a part of the integrated

exchange program in the Department of Industrial and Systems
Engineering (ISE), Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember. This
program aims to provide students an exposure to international
engagement and collaboration. This year the selected grand
theme is “Global Effect of Pandemic: Empowering Industrial
Recovery through Sustainable Innovation and Infrastructure”. This
theme is relevant to the current situation where industrial sectors
are affected globally by the pandemic disruption. Through this
topic, the students are expected to understand the global issues
particularly in industrial sectors, showcase their critical thinking
and perform a thorough analysis in order to identify potential
innovation solution for specific problem. In addition, students are
also challenged to identify the synergy of the proposed solutions
to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) objectives.
SYNOPSIS
Covid-19 has affected industries all over the globe severely in the last couple of years, from SMEs,
multinational companies that work at services to manufacturing industries. It forces them to
make an innovative adjustment to keep them breathing during this pandemic and beyond.
What these companies should do and how much adjustment should they make are still
remains somewhat unclear. In Ingenious 2021, the problems related to how an industry recovers
from this pandemic and make a sustainable and innovative adjustment are being discussed
under several industrial engineering perspectives, that includes ergonomics, manufacturing
system, logistics and supply chain management, system engineering, and system optimization.
Furthermore. Ingenious 2021 aims to generate creative solutions from young talent all over the
world that will be work as a team in providing diverse insights.

Ingenious 2021 is designed based on the Project-based Learning (PbL) method. There will be a
real case study brought by Indonesian companies that need to be solved by the participants of
this program. In each session of Ingenious 2021, participants are highly encouraged to “think
loudly” and give any of their opinions regarding any issues that they face in this program. This
method would provide the best learning environment for participants from different countries
and backgrounds to raise ideas and discuss different perspectives.

Besides conducting an academic discussion towards global industrial problems, Ingenious 2021
also invites all participants to have a cultural performance on its inauguration night to
strengthen a cross-region bond between young talents in industrial engineering field. Through
Ingenious 2021, a global discussion, collaboration, and relationship from its participants are to
be expected.

Plenary Session 1
Topic: Collaborating for Achieving Innovation

Prof. Riyanarto Sarno (ITS)

Monday, August 9th 2021, 12.30 – 15.00 GMT+7

Uncertainty is the biggest challenge for industries, and COVID-19 bring

the uncertainty to the next level. We do not know when this pandemic ends,
does consumer behavior remains after pandemic, how much companies
need to invest to adapt, are some examples of questions that companies have
to adress. In this session, we will discuss how the world changes due to this
pandemic and how industrial sector overcome that changes.
Plenary Session 2
Topic: Food Supply Chain Resilience in Pandemic disruptions

Prof. Iwan Vanany (ITS)

Tuesday, August 10th 2021, 08.00 – 10.30 GMT+7

Over the past 2 years, the prolonged disruption COVID-19 pandemic

has caused increased business uncertainty and decreased food supply. Food
business leaders need to have resilience to their business, including their food
supply chain. Availability of food products is needed to be ascertained by
country leaders and the food supply chain managers in each country is a vital
persons to be ensured availability of food product in their country. How
resilience in the food supply chain during a pandemic disruption needs to be
known by food supply chain actors. Food supply chain management using
traditional approaches to increase the resilience of the food supply chain are
not sufficient. It takes building a food supply chain resilience in pandemic
disruptions as a more comprehensive approach. How the key to food supply
chain resilience needs to be known not only by companies but also by the
government. Several supply chain resilience models also need to be
understood in order to build resilience in companies, especially food. Finally,
how digitalization plays a role in increasing resilience in the food supply chain
is a better choice that needs to be made.
Plenary Session 3
Topic: Reimagining manufacturing operations after COVID-19

Prof. Puvanasvaran A. Perumal (UTeM)

Tuesday, August 10th 2021, 12.30 – 15.00 GMT+7

History will remember the coronavirus

(COVID-19) pandemic as one of the most significant black
swan events. Countries across the globe are grappling to
counter the threatening impact of the pandemic.
Moreover, the economic and social disruption caused by
COVID-19 is expected to be far worse than that of the
2008-09 global financial crisis. According to the April 2021
world economic outlook report published by the IMF, the
global economy contracted by 5 percent in 2020. Sudden
materials shortages, steep drops in demand and worker
unavailability are the common issues in the
manufacturing sector. The adverse effects of COVID-19 on
FDI investments are expected to be high in the energy,
automotive, and airlines industries. Most of the factories
were shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic, which
affected the supply of many mechanical, electrical and
electronic components worldwide. In Europe, most
automobile companies and electronics manufacturers have temporarily closed their factories or minimized
the production output, resulting in loss to global trade. Daimler and Volkswagen temporarily shut down the
production of vehicles and engines at their factories in Europe and some of these companies are shifting
their production facility to the countries with less COVID-19 epidemic. Food & beverage manufacturing
companies are facing significantly reduced consumption and supply chain issues in the current scenario.
Manpower availability in the time of social distancing has been another major difficulty.
As in many industries, manufacturers are increasingly aware that even when the pandemic ends, it
will leave fundamental changes in its wakes, such as greater automation and a focus on smaller, more local
factories. Industry 4.0 helping companies to transform their operations from production efficiency to
product customization, with improvements in speed to market, service effectiveness, and new-business
model creation. With manufacturing resuming in many areas, it’s time for businesses to rethink how
digitization and sustainability can support them in the current and future crises. Manufacturers have had to
implement worker safety measures, improve efficiency to meet new norms and deal with local and federal
regulations. The COVID-19 pandemic has had significant psychological and social effects on the population.
Research has highlighted the impact on the psychological well-being of the most exposed groups, including
children, college students, and health workers, who are more likely to develop post-traumatic stress disorder,
anxiety, depression, and other symptoms of distress. Therefore, the government should emphasize health
care systems and ensure that facilities are adequately funded to prevent shortages of critical resources. Now
is the time for global solidarity and support, especially with the most vulnerable in our societies, particularly
in the emerging and developing world.
Plenary Session 4
Topic: Applied Cognitive & Macroergonomics Research during
the New Normal

Yogi Tri Prasetyo, PhD (Mapua University)

Thursday, August 12th 2021, 08.00 – 10.30 GMT+7

COVID-19 pandemic forced industrial across the globe to renew their

environment, health, and safety protocols. Productivity and EHS issues might
conflicts each other it is ill-managed. In this plenary session, how to
re-engineer the EHS systems and policies effectively are being discussed.
Plenary Session 5
Topic: Public policy on industrial sector to enhance economic
resilience after COVID-19

Helen Dian Fridayani, S.IP, M.IP (UMY)

Thursday, August 12th 2021, 12.30 – 15.00 GMT+7

There are many problems faced by industrial sector such as contract and
payment delays, the increase in the price of raw and auxillary materials which
impacts the supply and demand, exchange rate fluctuations, a decreased on
production utility due to the health protocols, various logistics issues, etc.
Therefore, various policies and stimulus were launched according to the
needs of business actors in order to accelerate the recovery of the national
economy. Plenary session 5 will discuss the problems and policy strategies in
industrial sector that affected by COVID-19 in Indonesia.
Plenary Session 6
Topic: Business process re-engineering due to digital migration

Prof. Fortunato de la Pena, (UPLB)

Friday, August 13th 2021, 08.00 – 10.30 GMT+7

Most of the businessess around the world has to adapt by changing their
business model to fits its consumer behavior during COVID-19. Digital
migration is one of the most common things that we have seen to be adjusted
by companies in their business during this pandemic. Plenary session 6
discuss how to re-engineer business process due to digital migration in
industrial sectors.
Plenary Session 7
Topic: Study case from industry
