Sensationalized News Article Assignment

Directions; For this assignment, you will use a major news website (CNN, Fox,
Bloomberg, MSNBC, New York Times, etc.) to find an article about a current news
event. Using this article, you will rewrite the article in a sensationalized way. Feel free
to be as creative as you’d like, but remember you are rewriting a news article; this
means you must remain unbiased and provide as many factual details as possible
while avoiding flowery, novel-like language. Be sure to follow the guidelines below:
Your sensationalized news article must be at least 3 paragraphs long.
Your sensationalized news article must use proper grammar and spelling.
Your sensationalized news article must have a title, date, and agency of
publication.
Your sensationalized news article must include a link to your original article.
Your sensationalized news article must follow the rules of journalistic writing,
meaning:
You must remain unbiased.
While it may be difficult, do not include personal opinions or
thoughts in news writing. Provide only the facts.
You must provide as many details as possible.
Remember the 5 W’s: who? what? when? where? why?
You must provide context for what is happening.
Is a major celebrity wrapped up in controversy? Why?
Is a politician throwing an event? What are they running for?
Why does this matter?
You must clearly identify sources in your writing.
Is the information you’re gathering from another news network?
If so, what network?
Is the information you’re gathering from an interview with an
eyewitness? If so, what is their name?
Is the information you’re gathering from a firsthand source? If
so, is it a pamphlet/handout? Is it something a major
politician/celebrity said? Is it something a spokesperson told
your news agency?
This assignment is due in Google Classroom at the beginning of class on Friday,
August 5, 2022. Plagiarism will result in a failing grade.
