1) If A = {1,2,3,4}, B = {4,5,6}, then find A − B.
2) If A, B and C are there sets and U is the universal set such that n(U ) =
700, n(A) = 200, n(B) = 300 and n(A ∩ B) = 100, then what is the value
of n(Ac ∩ B c )?
Group B Answer any five (5 × 4 = 20)
3) Prove that 1.2 + 2.3 + 3.4 + · · · + n.(n + 1) = n(n+1)(n+2)
3 for all integers
n ≥ 1.
4) Find gcd of 35 and 55 and find integers s and t such that gcd(35, 55) =
35s + 55t.
5) Convert (56.75)10 to its binary equivalent.
6) Find all integral solutions of the equation 7x + 11y = 1.
7) If 2n − 1 is prime, then prove that n is prime.
8) Find the remainder when 1! + 2! + 3! + · · · + 50! is divided by 15.
9) Let 0 − 85312 − 612 − x10 be the ISBN of a book. Find the check digit.
10) Make a schedule for a Round-Robin tournament, seven teams will partic-
ipate.
Group C Answer any one (7 × 1 = 7)
11) What is symbolic logic? Construct the truth table for (p → q) ∨ (q → p).
12) Define tautology. Construct truth table for ∼ p∧ ∼ q.
13) a) p ∨ (p ∧ q) ≡
(a) q
(b) p
(c) p ∨ q
(d) p ∧ q.
b) Construct the truth table for (p → q) ↔ (∼ p →∼ q).
Group D Answer any one (9 × 1 = 9)
14) a) Food X contains 6 units of vitamin A and 7 units of vitamin B per gram
and costs 12 p./gm. Food Y contains 8 units and 12 units of A and B per
gram respectively and costs 20 p./gm. The daily requirements of vitamin
A and B are at least 100 units and 120 units respectively. Formulate the
above as an L.P.P. to minimize the cost.
b) Make the graphical representation of the set of constraints the
following L.P.P.:
Maximize z = 10x1 + 15x2
subject to x1 + x2 ≥ 2, 3x1 + 2x2 ≤ 6, x1 , x2 ≥ 0. Find the maximum
value of the objective function.
15) a) Consider two different types of foodstuffs say F1 and F2 . Assume that
these foodstuffs contain vitamins V1 , V2 and V3 respectively. Minimum
daily requirements of these vitamins are 1 mg. of V1 , 50 mg. of V2 and
10 mg. of V3 . Suppose that the foodstuff F1 contains 1 mg. of V1 , 100
mg. of V2 and 10 mg. of V3 where as foodstuff F2 contains 1 mg. of V1 ,
10 mg. of V2 and 100 mg. of V3 . Cost of one unit of foodstuff F1 is Rs. 1
and that of F2 is Rs. 1.5. Find the minimum cost diet that would supply
the body at least minimum requirement of each vitamin. Formulate the
problem as a L.P.P.
