lab report 3

The lab report discusses the implementation of a digital control system for a pneumatic system using a double acting cylinder. The experiment involves setting up a test rig with various components, including a compressor and valves, to control the movement of the piston. Key conclusions highlight the importance of checking connections and the ability to control piston speed through air pressure regulation.

Lab report (3)
Introduction:
• A digital control system is a control system that processes signals coming from

sensors by means of a computer. The analogue signal (continuous in value and time)

must be sampled and take discrete values at given time intervals. This process is known

as signal digitalization.

• Digital Control is now commonly used in many areas of Industrial low-cost

automation.

They are also used extensively in production, assembly, pharmaceutical, chemical, and

packaging systems. There is a significant change in controls systems.

Objective:
In this experiment we will learn how to build a simple Pneumatic system to control the

movement of pneumatic double acting cylinder.

Test Rig:
The test rig contains:

1) Compressor

2) Pressure Control Valve

3) Connection Valve

4) 5/2 Valve With 2 solenoid Valve

5) Double Acting Cylinder

6) Switches

7) Push Button

Procedure:
1) First, we connect the Air supply from the compressor to the Pressure Control Valve.

2) We connect the Pressure Control Valve to Connection Valve.

3) We make the connections of the 5/2 Valve as showed above.

4) We connect the 2 solenoid Valve with the Push Buttons.

5) Check the connections of the circuit then turn on the compressor.

Results:
The Piston start to move as shown , for one cycle.

Conclusions:
o It is necessary to check the connections before starting to avoid any accident.

o In this experiment, we can control the speed of the piston by controlling the pressure of

the air by the Pressure Control Valve.
