This memo has for objective to present the user’s manual of the testing kit for pins of CWS stop ends.

This kit allows to check if the pins have been damaged after a difficult use of the CWS stop ends. This test
does not validate the manufacturing quality (pins welding, material) of the connections. It allows
identification of the pins which have been heavuly damaged following an inadequate use.

Equipment presentation:

1/ One manual hydraulic pump fitted with a pressure gauge

2/ One annular jack (35 t capacity at 500 bars)
3/ One central shaft M 42/ Dywidag bar M36 length 650 mm (certified and tested bar at 700 bars)
4/ One casing Ø 150 mm thickness 8 mm
5/ One Dywidag nut M36 length 100 mm
6/ One Dywidag nut M36 length 50 mm
7/ One disc Ø 180 mm thickness 20 mm
8/ Safety chain
9/ One set of numbers to strike

Tight the whole with the dywidag nut length 50 Connect the pump to the jack with the hydraulic
mm hose. It is strongly recommended to install the
pump in front of the shaft. Install it sidewise.

PROCESS OF CHECKING

- Raise the jack’s pressure up to 500 bars.

- Wait for 30 seconds.
- Release the pressure,
- Bring the jack’s pressure to 500 bars a
second time.
- Release the pressure.
- Dismantle and remove kit, and do the
same operations on the other pin.

The jack’s traction strength is about 33

tons for 500 bars
(the jack is tared at 550 bars)

Visual inspection of the junction between

the pin and the CWS body.
- Existence of a material displacement ?
- Existence of a fissure ?

In both cases, the part will be declared faulty and

will be destroyed.
