Appended Rubric :

#19680

Points Description

Student states that as the turtle grows, a larger aquarium is needed.

Information provided for the hand scorer:

Turtle; Volume in 1 year; in 2 years; in 3 years

Red Eared; 62.5; 82.5; 102.5

1

Yellow Belly; 50 5/8; 60 5/8; 70 5/8

Wood; 46.25; 51.25; 56.25

If the student made an error in question 4, but correctly used that information in this question, the student should
receive full credit.

0 The student does not explain that as a turtle grows a larger aquarium is needed.

#19681

Points Description

The student finds the correct new minimum volume (10 times the value from question 4), and finds the correct difference
2 between the new minimum volume and the initial minimum volume. (The initial minimum volume is the value from
question 3.)

The student finds the correct new minimum volume.

1 OR
The student makes a calculation error when finding the new minimum volume, but correctly finds the difference between
that number and the initial minimum volume.

0 Student does not meet the minimum requirements to receive 1 point.

TURTLE HABITAT

Your teacher announces that your class is going to have a pet turtle.
You and your classmates will learn how to care for a young turtle as it
grows into an adult. Your class will decide which type of turtle to select
as a pet.

Read the information below about types of turtles, caring for turtles,
and aquariums for turtles. The aquariums are in the shape of
rectangular prisms.

Caring for Your Turtle

The minimum volume, in gallons, of a turtle's aquarium is equal

to 10 times the turtle's length, in inches.

Feed your turtle only 1 time each day.

Aquariums for Turtles

Aquarium A costs $25 and has a volume of 40 gallons.

Aquarium B costs $30 and has a volume of 45 gallons.

Aquarium C costs $40 and has a volume of 65 gallons.

Aquarium D costs $50 and has a volume of 90 gallons.

Aquarium E costs $57 and has a volume of 100 gallons.

Aquarium F costs $65 and has a volume of 135 gallons.

You will write a note to future classes to help them learn how to care
for the turtle.
