BIOLOGY MOD 2

The document outlines a biology module for Grade 12 students at Caraga Regional Science High School, focusing on the organ systems involved in eating, digesting food, and waste removal. It includes activities that encourage students to explore the relationships between different organ systems and their functions. Additionally, it emphasizes the importance of understanding these systems for insights into human body functions and health treatments.

Activity 1: The CARROT-THING

Objective: Determine the organ systems involved from eating and digesting food
to the removal of waste.
Guide Questions:
Directions: Write your answers in three sentences only.
1. What organ systems are used while sitting at the lunch table eating a
carrot/food?
 There are at least four organ systems that are used while sitting at
the lunch table eating a carrot/food. Nervous system because it
governs the bodily function, respiratory system for the oxidation of
food or simply for breathing, circulatory system for the circulation of
nutrients, and most importantly, digestive system for the digestion
of food. The Muscular and Skeletal System also have a role in eating
because we use our hands for picking our food and our mouth for
chewing.
2. How do the organ systems in your body work together from eating and
digesting the carrot/food until its removal as waste materials?
 The organs system responsible for the digestion and removal of food
are the Nervous System, Endocrine System, Digestive System,
Muscular System, and Circulatory System. The moment we start to
see, taste, or even think of eating food, the cephalic phase will kick
in and our NS will send a signal to our ES to secrete hormones that
will prepare our stomach for the breakdown of food and MS helps in
bringing the food down the stomach through peristalsis which is an
involuntary movement of the muscle and MS also helps in the
mechanical breakdown of food. After the food is digested by our DS,
the CS will absorb the nutrients and transport it throughout the body
while the waste materials will be secreted by our DS.
Activity 2: RELATIONSHIP GOALS
Objective: Connect the relationship of one organ system to other organ systems.
What to do: Fill in the functions of the different organ systems below from the
word bank and connect the relationship of each pair of organ systems
in two sentences.

Guide Questions:
Directions: Write your answers in three sentences only.
1. What will happen to the Endocrine System if the Nervous is
not working well?
 Along with the nervous system, the endocrine
system coordinates the body's functions to maintain
homeostasis. When the Nervous system is not working
well, the pituitary gland which is the major endocrine
gland that is also dependent on the nervous system
will be affected. The production of hormones will be
unstable and will cause the body to not operate the
way it should be.
2. What do the Digestive, Respiratory and Circulatory
Systems have in common? Why?
 What the Digestive, Respiratory, and Circulatory
Systems have in common is that they work in
coordination in transporting nutrients, oxygen, and
water throughout the body. These organ systems
allow the raw materials to rich our cells or any part
of our body. In effect, it makes our body work
properly and perform tasks.
3. What systems of your body would be activated if you were surprised?
Why?
 Our Nervous System is activated when we are surprised. At the
same time, our Nervous System will also send signals to our
Endocrine System that creates and liberates hormones that sway
other body parts or glands, even your emotions. These hormones
can affect our circulatory system which makes our hearts beat faster
or our skeletal/muscular system that makes us move in random like
jumping or flinching before we can even realize what we are doing.
