Students will engage in weekly assignments by finding and summarizing articles related to environmental science, culminating in a poster presentation. Each poster must include the article's topic, title, source, vocabulary, summary, personal reaction, and world impact. The best poster from each month will be displayed in the classroom.

Environmental Science 20
Current Events: Science in the
news! Science is an ongoing process of asking questions, and discovery. It is not static, but dynamic! We are going to be asking questions, exploring topics of interest, and showing our findings to the class with posters.
Each week, you will find an article related to environmental
science. (I suggest using newsela to find articles) They will be due on the last day of school each week. There will rarely be specific class time to do this, it will be up to you to find time to complete the assignment. At the end of each month, you will pick your favourite poster and we will hang it up in the classroom.
On your poster you should include…
1. Topic: What is the topic of your article?
2. Article title: What is the title of the article? 3. Article Source: Include a QR code on your poster that is a link to the article. 4. Vocabulary: Choose 1-3 NEW vocabulary/content related words. Write the word, definition, and use each word in a sentence in a way that shows your understanding of the word and in the field of science and technology. 5. Summary: Briefly, and in your own words, summarize the contents of your article. Make sure it answers Who What, When, Where, How, and Why 6. Reaction: Take a position on the issue contained in the article. (agree, disagree, other) How do you feel about the event? How does this event affect you? You may use sentence starters like these: I think ... I'm confused... I liked this article... because... because because I can relate to this... I agree/disagree... This is interesting... because because because I feel... because... This upsets me... Now I want to know I chose this because . . . because article... because I still wonder... Now I understand . because . . because 7. World Impact: How does this event impact the world?
