EFFECTIVE LEARNING EXPERIENCE FOR STUDENTS IN THE NEW NORMAL

In this video, I learned that as a teacher, career development and competency
expansion is important to provide effective learning experience to our students in the
new normal. The new normal presents significant challenges to students in terms of
adapting to virtual or blended learning environments. Flex Model, In-Person Learning
Groups, Flipped Classroom, A La Carte Model, etc... are some of the ways a teacher can
use in delivering a lesson while integrating technology.
A successful learning in the new normal requires teachers to be creative, flexible, and
responsive to student’s needs. By using a combination of online and offline learning
strategies and tools, teachers can create an effective and engaging learning experience
for the students.

2. EDUCATIONAL ASSESSMENT AND EVALUATION FOR 21ST CENTURY LEARNERS

There are new ways on how to give Educational Assessment and Evaluation especially
for 21st century learners. Outcome-Based Assessment is a new way for flexible learning.
It is used when the rater compares the learner’s performance with a predetermined set
of standards drawn from the learning objectives. Some of the Assessment Strategies a
teacher can use are Online Quizzes and Test, Asynchronous Communication (ex. WIKIS),
Synchronous Communication (ex. Portfolios, Self-Reflection,Papers and Essays),
Problem-Based Learning, Journal Writing, Concept Maps, Simulation and Games. In
evaluating complex assignments or those requiring individual judgement, a teacher can
use a rubric.
Educational Assessment and Evaluation is an important part of learning process that
help teachers determine the effectiveness of the knowledge being imparted. This will
also help the teachers know the improvement of student learning and what areas that
needs to focus on.

3. DEVELOPING ASSESSMENT TOOLS FOR DECODING SKILLS OF YOUNG LEARNERS

Teachers need to identify the student’s strengths and weaknesses especially their
decoding skills to reading comprehension as this is the foundation to understand the
language. Teachers should bear in mind that there are reading developmental stages a
student must go through (Emergent Reading, Alphabetic Fluency, Rapid Growth and
Development, Reading to Learn, Abstract Reading) and it is a step by step process.
There are some assessment tools to diagnose decoding skills of learners such as Word
Structure Knowledge (word pattern), Cipher Knowledge (Phonological and Phonemic),
Phonemic and Syllable Awareness and Rhyme Awareness.
Decoding is important because if a student cannot decode words, their reading will lack
fluency, their vocabulary will be limited and their reading comprehension will suffer.

4. MODELS OF BLENDED LEARNING AND ITS APPROACHES

Blended Learning is an educational approach that combines online educational material
and opportunities for interaction online with traditional place-based classroom
methods. It includes connected learning, online learning, face-to-face, project-based
learning and global connections.
There are 6 Models in Blended Learning, the Face to Face Driver Model, Rotation Model,
Flex Model, Online Lab Model, Self-Blended Model and Online Driver Model.
Blended Learning is good for large groups and great for non-technology fans. It is also
accessible, up to date and promotes student engagement.
In Designing a successful blended learning strategy, a teacher should understand the
learner’s preference. It should offer supplemental resources.

5. PARENT INVOLVEMENT: ESTABLISHING STRONG HOME-SCHOOL CONNECTIONS FROM

START OF CLASSES
Parents are the primary responsible for providing a child’s education that is why their
involvement in the learning process is significant. Parents should love and encourage
their kids to become motivated as this promotes positive attitude which support
effective learning. Parents should make quality time for their child while supporting
their learning by simply being play dates or going for a walk in the park as this reinforces
the child’s belief that his/her parent care about them.
Parents and teachers should work well together for the benefit of everybody especially
for the child. The child’s best interest are always served when she has a large number of
people rooting for her and this will develop a love of learning.

6. LOCALIZATION AND CONTEXTUALIZATION IN THE K-12 CURRICULUM

Localization and contextualization are two important concepts in K-12 education that
aims to make the curriculum more relevant and meaningful to the students. Localization
refers to the process of adapting the curriculum to the local context, taking into account
the culture, history, language, and values of the community. By localizing the
curriculum, students are more likely to connect with the subject matter and see its
relevance to their lives, which can increase engagement and motivation.
Contextualization refers to the educational process of relating the curriculum to a
particular setting, situation or area of application to make the competencies relevant,
meaningful, and useful to all learners. By contextualizing the curriculum, students are
more likely to see its practical value and develop a deeper understanding of the subject
matter.

7. APPLYING SUBJECT INTEGRATION INTEGRATION IN LESON PLANNING

Lesson Plan is the teacher’s road map of what the students need to learn and how it will
be done effectively during the class time. There are 3 key components of a successful
lesson plan: Learning Objectives, Learning Activities, and Assessment. One can say a
lesson is productive when both students and the teacher learn from each other. Before
planning a lesson, teacher should identify first the learning objectives as this will
describe what the learner will know. When deciding for learning activity, it is important
that it is aligned to the learning objectives, must meaningfully engage students in active,
constructive, authentic, and collaborative way. The teacher then plans on how to assess
student understanding. Giving feedback to students will help them how to improve their
learning.
8. ASSESSMENT AND REPORTING
A teacher has a responsibility to nurture student’s learning and to provide feedback in a
way that the student does not leave the classroom feeling defeated. In giving feedback,
teachers must provide an explanation and example as to what is accurate and
inaccurate about their work. Feedbacks should be given in a timely manner so the
student can connect with their action. It is vital that teachers should take into
consideration each student individually when giving feedback. A balance between not
wanting to hurt a student’s feelings and providing proper encouragement is essential. A
rubric is an instrument to communicate expectations for an assignment and a useful
way to provide effective feedback for learning. Teachers should bear in mind that giving
feedback is to keep students ‘on target’ for achievement.

9. AN APPROACH TO SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT IN SCHOOLS

Spiritual Development relates to fundamental questions about the meaning and
purpose of life which affect everyone and is not dependant on a religious affiliation. It
has to do with relationships in ourselves, our family, friends, to other people and for
believers, with God.The characteristics of a spiritually developing person are being
generous, reflective, responsible, thankful, truthful, etc...
The school can give children opportunities to become aware of the world by learning
about life in all its fullness. It can also give opportunities to children to reflect on their
experiences as well as to do something creative as a means of expressing, applying and
further developing their thoughts and convictions. So developing spirituality is essential
to each individual.

10. MAXIMIZING PRODUCTIVITY IN THIS DIGITAL AGE

It is essential that you prioritize your tasks by making a to-do list and prioritize tasks by
importance and urgency. This will help you stay focused and ensure you’re making
progress on the most important things. There are lots of productivity tools that can help
you stay on top of your work. It is also important to take regular breaks to avoid burnout
and maintain productivity. Minimizing distractions is also one way to maximize
productivity. You can use Pomodoro Technique, a productivity method that involves
working for a set amount of time and then taking a short break.

11. CURRENT TRENDS IN EDUCATION

There are current trends in education that are gaining popularity and transforming the
educational landscape such as:
Personalized Learning, a way of tailoring education to each student’s unique needs,
strengths, and weaknesses. Blended Learning, an approach that combines traditional
face-to-face instruction with online learning. Project-Based Learning, a teaching method
in which students gain knowledge and skills by working for an extended period of time
to investigate and respond to a real-world problem or challenge. Gamification, uses
game design elements. Collaborative Learning, an approach that fosters teamwork,
communication, and problem-solving skills. STEM Learning, an interdisciplinary
approach that integrates concepts of these disciplines into real-world problems and
focuses on hands-on, experiential learning. Social Emotional Learning (SEL) teaches
students how to manage their emotions and build healthy relationships.

12. HOW TO BECOME EFFECTIVE EDUCATOR

Becoming an effective educator requires a combination of skills, knowledge, and
experience. It is significant that the teacher develops a deep understanding of the
subject matter in order to teach effectively. You have to know your students, their
strengths and weaknesses, interests, and learning styles as this will help you create
lessons that are engaging and relevant to their lives. Students learn best when they feel
safe, supported, and valued. So create a positive and supportive learning environment.
Use a variety of teaching strategies that will help keep your students engaged and
motivated. Technology can be a powerful tool to enhance teaching and learning. So,
incorporate it in delivering your lesson to create a more interactive and engaging
lessons to connect with students.
By these, one can becomean effective educator who inspires and empowers students to
reach their full potential.

13. EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY

Educational Technology refers to a broad range of digital tools and resources that are
designed to enhance teaching and learning. Educational Technology helps to release the
teacher from the routine role of information giving, more time for planning, arranging
and evaluating learning experiences and outcomes, creation of multi-media learning
environments in classroom.
By incorporating educational technology in the teaching-learning process, educators can
leverage these tools to support and enhance student learning, making it more engaging,
personalized, flexible, and effective.

To have a successful career, PREPARATION is very important. You have to prepare
yourself to achieve your dreams and goals in life. There are things that you need to
prepare for a successful career. First is educational attainment, you have to attain basic
education to get a good job. Second is Continuing Professional Development, you have
to continue improving yourself, upgrade your knowledge because learning doesn’t stop
even if you finish school or even have a job already. You have to learn to advance your
skills, adapt to changes and these can be made through attending seminars and
trainings, workshops or conferences, taking master’s degree or even doctorate. Third is
gaining experience related to your career as this will develop your skills and provide you
meaningful learning that are beneficial for you. Fourth is finding a mentor or a support
group who can help and train you to be the best version of yourself.
PERSEVERANCE is the second P’s of successful career. It is important to strive more and
to never stop despite the challenges you face. You have to set a goal and have a clear
vision. You also have to be good in handling failures and dealing with discouragement.
PRAYER is the third P’s of successful career. We all know that if we rely just on
ourselves, we will not succeed because we will always need God in our lives. So if we
want to be successful in our career, it should be included in our prayers. We should
acknowledge that in every achievement or success that we take, God is the one who is
working and making every thing possible.
