EFFECTIVE LEARNING EXPERIENCE FOR STUDENTS IN THE NEW NORMAL
In this video, I learned that as a teacher, career development and competency expansion is important to provide effective learning experience to our students in the new normal. The new normal presents significant challenges to students in terms of adapting to virtual or blended learning environments. Flex Model, In-Person Learning Groups, Flipped Classroom, A La Carte Model, etc... are some of the ways a teacher can use in delivering a lesson while integrating technology. A successful learning in the new normal requires teachers to be creative, flexible, and responsive to student’s needs. By using a combination of online and offline learning strategies and tools, teachers can create an effective and engaging learning experience for the students.
2. EDUCATIONAL ASSESSMENT AND EVALUATION FOR 21ST CENTURY LEARNERS
There are new ways on how to give Educational Assessment and Evaluation especially for 21st century learners. Outcome-Based Assessment is a new way for flexible learning. It is used when the rater compares the learner’s performance with a predetermined set of standards drawn from the learning objectives. Some of the Assessment Strategies a teacher can use are Online Quizzes and Test, Asynchronous Communication (ex. WIKIS), Synchronous Communication (ex. Portfolios, Self-Reflection,Papers and Essays), Problem-Based Learning, Journal Writing, Concept Maps, Simulation and Games. In evaluating complex assignments or those requiring individual judgement, a teacher can use a rubric. Educational Assessment and Evaluation is an important part of learning process that help teachers determine the effectiveness of the knowledge being imparted. This will also help the teachers know the improvement of student learning and what areas that needs to focus on.
3. DEVELOPING ASSESSMENT TOOLS FOR DECODING SKILLS OF YOUNG LEARNERS
Teachers need to identify the student’s strengths and weaknesses especially their decoding skills to reading comprehension as this is the foundation to understand the language. Teachers should bear in mind that there are reading developmental stages a student must go through (Emergent Reading, Alphabetic Fluency, Rapid Growth and Development, Reading to Learn, Abstract Reading) and it is a step by step process. There are some assessment tools to diagnose decoding skills of learners such as Word Structure Knowledge (word pattern), Cipher Knowledge (Phonological and Phonemic), Phonemic and Syllable Awareness and Rhyme Awareness. Decoding is important because if a student cannot decode words, their reading will lack fluency, their vocabulary will be limited and their reading comprehension will suffer.
4. MODELS OF BLENDED LEARNING AND ITS APPROACHES
Blended Learning is an educational approach that combines online educational material and opportunities for interaction online with traditional place-based classroom methods. It includes connected learning, online learning, face-to-face, project-based learning and global connections. There are 6 Models in Blended Learning, the Face to Face Driver Model, Rotation Model, Flex Model, Online Lab Model, Self-Blended Model and Online Driver Model. Blended Learning is good for large groups and great for non-technology fans. It is also accessible, up to date and promotes student engagement. In Designing a successful blended learning strategy, a teacher should understand the learner’s preference. It should offer supplemental resources.

START OF CLASSES Parents are the primary responsible for providing a child’s education that is why their involvement in the learning process is significant. Parents should love and encourage their kids to become motivated as this promotes positive attitude which support effective learning. Parents should make quality time for their child while supporting their learning by simply being play dates or going for a walk in the park as this reinforces the child’s belief that his/her parent care about them. 6. LOCALIZATION AND CONTEXTUALIZATION IN THE K-12 CURRICULUM
Localization and contextualization are two important concepts in K-12 education that aims to make the curriculum more relevant and meaningful to the students. Localization refers to the process of adapting the curriculum to the local context, taking into account the culture, history, language, and values of the community. By localizing the curriculum, students are more likely to connect with the subject matter and see its relevance to their lives, which can increase engagement and motivation. 7. APPLYING SUBJECT INTEGRATION INTEGRATION IN LESON PLANNING
Lesson Plan is the teacher’s road map of what the students need to learn and how it will be done effectively during the class time. There are 3 key components of a successful lesson plan: Learning Objectives, Learning Activities, and Assessment. One can say a lesson is productive when both students and the teacher learn from each other. Before planning a lesson, teacher should identify first the learning objectives as this will describe what the learner will know. When deciding for learning activity, it is important that it is aligned to the learning objectives, must meaningfully engage students in active, constructive, authentic, and collaborative way. The teacher then plans on how to assess student understanding. Giving feedback to students will help them how to improve their learning. 8. ASSESSMENT AND REPORTING A teacher has a responsibility to nurture student’s learning and to provide feedback in a way that the student does not leave the classroom feeling defeated. In giving feedback, teachers must provide an explanation and example as to what is accurate and inaccurate about their work. Feedbacks should be given in a timely manner so the student can connect with their action. It is vital that teachers should take into consideration each student individually when giving feedback. A balance between not wanting to hurt a student’s feelings and providing proper encouragement is essential. A rubric is an instrument to communicate expectations for an assignment and a useful way to provide effective feedback for learning. Teachers should bear in mind that giving feedback is to keep students ‘on target’ for achievement.
