‭Week 1: Seasons‬
‭Materials Needed:‬

‭Module Breakdown:‬

1‭ .‬ B ‭ egin the session with a game of ‘Red Light, Green Light’ to warm up.‬
‭2.‬ ‭Conduct a mini fitness circuit with tasks like jumping jacks, squats and‬
‭running in place.‬
‭3.‬ ‭Ask the students what their favourite season is and why‬
‭4.‬ ‭Conduct an Art activity : Ask the students to write down the name of the‬
‭season and draw a few items that come to mind. For eg. summer might remind‬
‭them of ice cream, etc.‬
‭5.‬ ‭Dive into the explanation of the seasons:‬

I‭ n many places the weather changes during the year. These changes are called seasons.‬
‭Generally, there are four seasons in a year. Each season brings changes that are‬
‭important for plants and animals that live in different parts of the world. Following‬
‭are the seasons in INDIA.‬

‭(NOTE: North and South refers to the northern and southern hemispheres)‬

‭●‬ ‭Spring‬

S‭ pring starts when the day and night are the same length. The weather gets warmer‬
‭and sunnier. Trees and plants start to grow. Many animals have their babies in spring.‬
‭Spring includes the months of March and April.‬

‭●‬ ‭Summer‬

S‭ ummer begins on the longest day of the year. In the north this is on 21 June.‬
‭Summer is usually the warmest and sunniest time of the year. Fruit grows on trees‬
‭and plants. Young animals grow bigger and stronger. Duration is from May to‬
‭June/July.‬

‭●‬ ‭Monsoon‬

‭ s the name indicates, rainfall occurs in most of India in this season. As compared to‬

‭the summer season, the days are short and nights are long in this season. It is‬
‭sometimes called 'green season'. Lasts in the months of July and August.‬

‭●‬ ‭Autumn‬

‭ utumn starts when the day and night are the same length again. During autumn,‬

‭the leaves change colour and fall from the trees. Some animals collect food before‬
‭winter comes. During September, October and November.‬

‭●‬ ‭Winter‬

‭ inter begins on the shortest day of the year. In the north this is on 21 December.‬

‭The weather is colder and in some places there is lots of snow. Plants and trees stop‬
‭growing. Some animals, like bats and bears, find places to hide and sleep. This is‬
‭called hibernation. Duration is from December to February.‬

‭Fun Facts:‬

1‭ .‬ W ‭ hen it is summer in the north it is winter in the south.‬


‭2.‬ ‭At the North and South Pole there are only two seasons.‬
‭3.‬ ‭In tropical places near the Earth's equator there are two seasons: a 'wet' season‬
‭and a 'dry' season.‬
‭4.‬ ‭The start of spring is celebrated with various festivals like Holi, the festival of‬
‭colours.‬
‭5.‬ ‭Cherrapunji, located in the state of Meghalaya, holds the record for the‬
‭highest annual rainfall, making it one of the wettest places on earth.‬
