Social Skills Lesson 5

Objectives
•Discuss social skills as a component of social competence
•Explain the importance of developing solid social skills
What are Soft Skills?
Soft skills are attribute that enhance how we relate with
other. We refer to them as ‘people skills’ and occasionally
even EQ.
These are skills we use – learned or intrinsically developed
– in order to survive in social settings.
Soft skills are now recognized as critical competencies that
make businesses more profitable and companies, better
place to work.
Social Skills Lesson 5
Hard skills and soft skills are both important for success in
the workplace.

Hard skills are the technical abilities you need to do your


job. They are often learned through education or training.
Examples of hard skills include:
Computer programming: Knowing how to code in
different languages.
Data analysis: Being able to interpret and use data to
make decisions.
Project management: Knowing how to plan, organize,
and execute projects.
Accounting: Understanding financial statements and how
to track expenses.
Soft skills are the personal qualities and interpersonal
abilities that help you work effectively with others. They
are often learned through experience and practice.
Examples of soft skills include:

Communication: Being able to express yourself clearly


and effectively.
Teamwork: Being able to work well with others to achieve
a common goal.
Problem-solving: Being able to identify and solve
problems in a creative and efficient way.
Leadership: Being able to motivate and inspire others.
What is Skill?

A skill is a type of work or activity which


requires special training and knowledge.

Types of skill :

Hard skill
Soft skill
Two General Classifications of Skills:
1. Soft skills – People skills and in certain quarters, EQ
(Emotional Quotient)
2. Hard skills – pertains to technical skills use when we
perform tasks.
 Hard skills are teachable abilities or skill sets that are
easy to quantify.

 Soft skills are integral to a manager or leader role


because they interact with people and spend most of
their time managing how people work within preset
policies and procedures.
Some organizations identified the following as the most
urgent set of skills for people in positions of leadership:
• Respect Team work
• Ethics Integrity
WHAT EMPLOYERS LOOK FOR

1.First and foremost, can you do the job?


2.Are you going to be reasonably easy to work with?
3.Will you be satisfied with the job or will you be looking
to leave within six months?
4.Are you reasonably likeable?
5.Do you seem like you can put up with whatever the
negatives of the job are?
6.Will you fit in with the company culture?
7.Do you have a strong work ethic?
8.How enthusiastic are you about the job?
First and foremost, can you do the job?
Absolutely. I was trained to handle a wide variety of tasks,
and I'm constantly learning and improving. I am confident
that I possess the skills and knowledge required to not
only perform the job effectively but to also contribute
meaningfully to the team's goals.

Are you going to be reasonably easy to work


with?
I believe so. I genuinely enjoy collaborating with others
and value open communication. My goal is to contribute
positively to the team dynamic by being supportive,
respectful, and always willing to help where needed. I’m
adaptable and comfortable receiving feedback, which I
see as an opportunity to grow and refine my approach to
best align with the team's workflow.
Will you be satisfied with the job or will you
be looking to leave within six months?
I am genuinely excited about the opportunity this job
presents. I am looking for a long-term commitment. I see
this as a chance to grow my skills, contribute to a company
whose mission I admire, and establish myself as a valuable
member of the team. My aim is to become an indispensable
part of the organization and contribute to its ongoing
success.
Are you reasonably likeable?
Well, I strive to be! I believe in treating everyone with
kindness, respect, and understanding. I enjoy building
positive relationships and fostering a sense of
camaraderie. I also have a good sense of humor and I
believe that those qualities can make me approachable
and easy to get along with.

Every job has its challenges, and I understand that. I'm not
afraid of hard work or facing difficulties. I'm resourceful
and confident that I can manage the less enjoyable
aspects of the job while maintaining a high level of
performance and a positive attitude.

collaborative spirit will allow me to seamlessly integrate into

many employers would rather provide job skills
training to an enthusiastic but inexperienced
worker than hire someone with perfect
qualifications but a less-than-positive attitude.
