This expository paper talks about telegraph of its background, history, uses, ways how to use and its evolution
from being old fashioned and traditional to the present-day. First, what is a telegraph? The telegraph was an early
form of long-distance communication technology that was widely used in the 19th and early 20th centuries. It
enabled people to send messages over long distances by transmitting coded electrical signals through a wire. And
it is background? In the early 19 th century, telegraph is used as a communication gadget. Mr. Samuel Morse is the
one who played a significant role in its development. Morse, along with his associate Alfred Vail, developed a
practical telegraph system that utilized a simple code, known as Morse code, to represent letters and numbers.
They also designed a telegraph key, which allowed operators to control the transmission of electrical signals. And
the first successful demonstration of the telegraph was in 1893. And how did the old-fashioned telegraph become
a multifunction smartphone? First it became a voice transmitting telephone, unlike in telegraph which relied on
morse code. Next, from bulky size to your sleek pocket-size mobile phone was invented in mid-2000’s. It allows
you to make and receive calls and send text messages. And lastly, from a simple mobile phone to multifunction
smartphone, not only for communication but also for tasks like browsing, social media, navigation, and multimedia
consumption. In conclusion, the telegraph stands as monumental milestones in the history of communication,
transforming the world by bridging vast distances and enabling rapid transmission of messages. Its invention and
development set the stage for future innovations, shaping the way we connect and communicate in the modern
digital age. Despite its eventual obsolescence, the telegraph's impact on society, commerce, and the evolution of
technology remains significant, reminding us of the power of human ingenuity and the pursuit of connectivity.
