Graphic Organizer and Project Justification.

The document outlines a project justification that employs computational thinking through problem identification, decomposition, pattern recognition, and abstraction across multiple iterations. It discusses how the author identified a critical problem regarding safety during heavy rainfall and flood alerts, breaking it down into sub-problems and recognizing patterns to derive potential outcomes. The abstraction phase emphasizes the importance of relevant data, such as rainfall amounts and vulnerable populations, to inform decision-making for local authorities.

Project Justification

After you complete the graphic organizer below, use this project justification document to explain how you used computational
thinking in your project.

Problem Identification. For each iteration of your problem, please explain how you arrived at your identified
problem.
For, Iteration 1,I start with a question, which is essential should be asked : "what
actions should the local authorities take to keep the people safe during the heavy
rainfall and flood alert ?" For Iteration 2 and 3 , I provided more information for my
problem and I came with three potential outcome : either people to move a few
kilometers away from the dam for the first time being or relocated the residents to a
rehabilitation centre or request people to stay alert of raising river water level. These
three outcomesderived from my Iteration 1 pattern recognition phase.

Decomposition. For each iteration where you decomposed an identified problem, please explain how this
decomposition helped you solve your identified problem.
The decomposition phases were important for me in all three iterations. In Iteration 1, I
identified two sub-problems that helped solve the larger problem. In Iteration 2, I
identified two more sub-problems. In Iteration 3, I identified one last sub-problem.
Together, all of these sub-problems were helpful because they focused in on specific
aspects of my larger problem, and they all asked questions that were quantifiable.

Pattern Recognition. For each iteration where you recognized patterns in data, please explain how these patterns
helped you solve your identified problem.
For this project, I utilized the pattern recognition phase in Iteration 1. This was an
important phase because it allowed me to identify three potential outcomes: either ask
people to few kilometres away from dam located in theni for being or relocate the
residents to a rehabilitation centre or requested people to stay alert of rising of vaigai
river water or provide medical support .once i identified these three potential
outcomes, the rest of the work deciding how to choose the appropriate outcome

Abstraction. For each iteration where you abstracted information, please explain how abstraction allowed you to
solve your identified problem.
The abstraction phases were used in Iterations 2 and 3. In Iteration 2, the abstraction
phase recognizes that knowing the expected amount of rainfall and current water level
in the dam are important for local authorities to consider. In Iteration 3 ,the
abstractions recognizes that knowing the number of elderly ,disabled, children and
preganent women in the grp is important information for me . these abstactions helped
to solve my identified problem because it allowed me to focus on the relevant
information ignoring less important information .
Decomposition (How would you break down your problem into sub-
problems?

Iteration 1 To make a decision, I should know following:

1. Expected amount of the rainfall
2. Quantity of water flowing into the dam now.
3. Current water level in the dam
Problem Identification 4. Dam capacity
The local administrators received extremely heavy
rainfall warning from the state meteorological
department. They have to release water safely from Pattern Recognition (Are there related solutions to draw on?)

should be dealt with considering the safety of people Based on previous heavy rainfall warnings,

Iteration 2 Now that we know there is heavy rainfall and the water
in the Vaigai dam is rising to alarming levels, sub
problems to be solved are:
Problem Identification
1. Are there elderly, disabled, children and pregnant
women among the people
The area is expected to receive 10mm/hour rainfall with
42.37 litres flowing into the Vaigai dam per second. The
