SCOPE

AND
DELIMITATION
Scope is defined as the coverage
or boundaries of the study in terms
of the area or locality and subjects
or population covered, the duration
or period of the study, and the
research issues or concerns to
which the investigation is focused.
E.g.
This present study covers all the
women of reproductive ages in the
district of Jaro, Iloilo City. To last for
seven months, the study is focused on
the knowledge of attitude towards, and
practice of family planning techniques,
natural or otherwise.
Delimitations or limitations are
statements which alert the
reader of the research report
to certain constraints over
which the researcher has no
control.
E.g.
The study would be more
comprehensive, meaningful and far-
reaching if it covers more areas including
rural communities, which will provide basis
for comparison. This however, would mean
more time, money and manpower, which
the researcher does not have
Guidelines in writing the scope and
delimitation

Indicate the principal variables, locale,

timeframe and justification
To whom you research is directed to?
What is the subject matter of the study?
Where the study will take place?
Indicate the time of the study.
E.g.
This study was limited on determining the effects of
birth order in the academic performance of the students.
Moreover, it looked into the profile of the students especially
their, number of siblings and their birth orders. The
relationship between the characteristics of the students and
the birth order is also determined in the second year
Mathematics major students. Lastly, it sought for the effect
of birth order on the academic performance of the students.
This study was undertaken during the second semester of
