Top 3 Factors To Consider While Choosing The Right Credit Card
A Credit Card offers a world of benefits and choosing the right card can make your
financial life so much simpler.
Read our guide to choosing the right Credit Card.

What is your lifestyle?

Credit Cards are not just a convenient financial tool but also a lifestyle
accessory.
For instance, if you are a frequent flyer, you can opt for a co-branded airline
Credit Card like the 6E Rewards XL – IndiGo our Bank Credit Card. Such a card will
make your travel smoother and more comfortable with benefits like free lounge
access, priority check-in, complimentary flight tickets*, etc. You also stand to
earn rewards that you can convert to book flights at discounted prices or for free.
If you tend to entertain, eat out or socialise regularly, opt for a card that
offers a better dining experience and greater rewards and discounts at restaurants.
If you haven’t used a Credit Card before, you can start out with something simple,
such as the Millennia Credit Card from our Bank. It is a cashback type Credit Card
where you can earn cashback (in the form of Cash Points) for various purchases. You
can redeem these cash points into brand vouchers or statement credit. The Card also
offers complimentary access to airport lounges, dining privileges, etc., making it
a potentially ideal choice for beginners. Plus, you can conveniently manage the
Credit Card via portals like Net Banking, MyCards, mobile banking, etc.
Choose a Credit Card that suits your lifestyle and offers you the maximum rewards
and benefits for the kind of activities you indulge in frequently.
our Bank has a wide range of co-branded and specialised cards that are tailored for
different lifestyle needs.

What features do you want?

Credit Cards come with a slew of features that can make your life easier. For
example, many our Bank Credit Cards offer features such as automated utility bill
payment, Easy EMI, welcome bonuses, zero liability on lost or stolen cards, fuel
surcharge waiver and insurance cover. So, compare the features between cards before
you choose one.
How much are you willing to pay?
What does your credit card cost? Compare the different charges among cards:
* Annual fees: Most cards charge an annual fee, but waive
it off if you achieve minimum spends
* Finance charges: Banks will charge you an interest when
you use revolving credit (carrying your outstanding amount beyond your due date)
* Late payment and over-limit fee: If you settle your
outstanding after the due date or spend over your credit limit, the bank may charge
you a late payment fee.
* Cash withdrawal fee: Withdrawing money from an ATM with
your Credit Card attracts charges and interest.
All cards come with monthly credit limits. If you plan to use your card extensively
for travel, dining and entertainment, you might want to opt for one with higher
credit limits.
If you use your card infrequently, choose a card with a lower credit limits.
Now that you are aware of how to choose the right Credit Card, read more on how to
use the Credit Card wisely.

A Credit Card is no longer a luxury. It’s a must-have accessory in your wallet. A
Credit Card brings a world of convenience, interest free period, discounts,
CashBacks and Rewards Points. Whether you are a student or a teacher, self-employed
or salaried, we show you how to get a Credit Card in three easy steps.

Step 1: Choose your Credit Card

Each bank offers dozens of Credit Card options. The card you choose will depend on
your expected usage and requirements, and the benefits you want– for example, some
Credit Cards are great for travellers, some are designed for entertainment, others
may be great for business.

To know which card is right for you, visit the our Bank Credit Card section.

Once you have selected the right card for yourself, check with the bank about your
eligibility for the card and the documents you must submit with your Credit Card
application.

Step 2: Apply for your card

Get all your documents ready – a bank will usually ask for identity, address and
income proofs. If you are an existing customer that may not be necessary.

Apply online or at an ATM or visit your nearest branch with the required documents.

Most cards come with an annual fee that is typically waived off when you achieve a
certain limit of spends in a year. The annual fee will be included in your monthly
statement.

Step 3: Activate your card

After your Credit Card application is approved, it is dispatched to your

communication address. You will need to sign for it at the time of delivery and
show some identity proof.

A PIN (personal identity number) is usually couriered to you separately, whereas

the Green PIN is sent on your registered mobile number. You will need the PIN to
authenticate any transaction you do on your Credit Card.

Once you get your Credit Card and the PIN in your hands, head to the nearest ATM of
your bank to change the PIN.

Congratulations! You now have a new Credit Card, and you’re ready for your first
purchase. Happy shopping!

payments, and the total outstanding balance. This statement is generated as per
your billing cycle. The Bank will send you this statement to your registered email

Cash Withdrawals with Your Credit Card

You can use the Cash Advance service to withdraw cash from ATMs using your Credit
Card. The amount you can withdraw depends on your card type and the predetermined
cash advance limit. When you withdraw cash using your Credit Card, the bank will
levy interest on the withdrawn amount along with other applicable charges.

card you have. These fees include annual maintenance charges and other charges
which are levied on different conditions. It also includes fees for cash advances,
foreign currency conversion fees, late payment charges, interest on unpaid
balances, fees for going over your credit limit, and applicable Goods and Services
Tax (GST) charges.
Reward Points
Your Credit Card transactions, both online and offline, can help you earn rewards,
cashback and other offers. You can redeem the accumulated points for brand
vouchers, airmiles, statement credit, etc. Ensure you use your reward points before
they expire.
Bill Payment
Upon Credit Card bill generation, the card issuer provides a grace period of up to
20 days for bill payment. To steer clear of late payment charges, ensure you pay at
least the minimum amount due before the due date. While you can make partial
payments, note that the remaining outstanding balance will accumulate interest and
be subject to applicable taxes.

everyone. Assess your eligibility and select the Credit Card that aligns with your

creditworthiness to the bank over a specific period of time. Also, you do not have

credit limit gives you freedom to buy more and earn more reward points so use it to
your advantage.
Know About Billing and Payment Dates
The billing date is when the bank sends you an itemised bill comprising your Credit
Card spends during the last billing cycle and the payment date is the date on or
before which you must clear your dues. Ensure you keep track of these dates to
avoid late payment charges.

Monitor your Expenses

Stay on top of your Credit Card expenses regularly to thwart potential fraudulent
transactions. Opt for SMS and email alerts after each Credit Card transaction to
keep a real-time tab on your spends. In the case of suspicious activity, notify the
bank and take immediate action to block your card.
- What Not to Do:
Don’t Over-Utilise the Entire Credit Limit
Utilising only a part of your card’s credit limit may be the right way to go. Over-
utilisation of the credit limit may impact your credit score, burden you with a
huge debt, and makes repayment difficult.
Don’t Apply for Too Many Credit Cards
While it may seem wise to to have more than one Credit Card and by extension an
additional credit limit, especially during emergencies, applying for multiple
Credit Cards may not be not prudent. Doing so may make you appear credit hungry or
a imply risk-taking tendencies.
Don’t Pay Just the Minimum Amount Due
Paying only the minimum amount due on your Credit Card is not recommended. By
choosing this option, you would typically carry forward the remaining amount to the
next cycle, incurring an interest rate on the delayed payment, and increasing your
outstanding Credit Card debt.
Don’t use it for prohibited / restricted transactions
Usage of the our Bank International Credit Card(s) shall be strictly in accordance
with exchange control regulations, law of the land or of the Regulatory authorities
as applicable from time to time.

sensitive information on your card with an alias called ‘token’ which is hereafter
used while processing transactions.

transaction at a merchant outlet or via mobile app.

What is tokenization?
It’s a process where the card number is replaced with unique set of characters
referred to as token which secures the customer’s card details when the transaction
is under process.
Step 1: Credit card holder initiates transaction and enters their card details
Step 2: Credit card information goes to merchant acquiring bank in form of token
step 3: Acquirer transmits the token to credit card networks for authorization
step 4: Once authorized, token gets matched to customer account details present in
bank secure database
Step 5:Post succesful authorization issuing bank receives decrypted token details
and sends success/failure response to Network
This enables for frictionless and secure payments in different environments-online,
in-store and in-app.
