Course Description

General Zoology is a four credit hour course that consists of two 75-minute lectures and
one three-hour laboratory session per week. The course is considered as an overview of
the field of zoology. This course investigates the taxonomy, morphology, anatomy,
physiology, ecology and evolution of organisms belonging to the kingdoms Protista and
Animalia. The laboratory will provide students with the experience with regard to the
diversity of organisms from taxonomic, morphological, structural, functional and
ecological perspectives. Students are expected to pass in both the theory and the
practical examinations.

Prerequisite course
General Biology 0304102.

Attendance
Regular class attendance is probably one of the simplest and most effective ways for
enhancing one’s academic performance. Attendance will be noted in this class.

Course Objectives

1. Encourage an interest in zoology.

2. Develop an understanding of levels of organization and classification of organisms
described in this course.
3. Characterize and distinguish protists and animals based mainly on perspectives of
morphology, anatomy, physiology, ecology.
4. Differentiate among protists and animal life cycles, behaviors, adaptations, and
relationships.
5. Appreciate the role of other organisms, which share our planet.
Laboratory

Laboratory assignments include lab reports and practical exams. Lab reports will be
due at the end of the class period.
