Grade9-LP- differentiated drill
Subject: Mathematics
Learning Goals:
Understand and illustrate the six trigonometric ratios: sine, cosine, tangent, cosecant, secant, and cotangent.
Apply trigonometric ratios to solve problems involving right triangles.
Differentiated Drill Activity Instructions:
Overview:
In this activity, students will work through a series of progressively challenging problems related to trigonometric ratios and right
triangles. The activity is designed to cater to different learning paces and styles, ensuring that all students can engage with the
material and progress at their own level.
Materials Needed:
Graph paper
Rulers
Protractors
Calculators
Worksheets with problems of varying difficulty
Activity Structure:
Task: Solve problems involving a right triangle where the length of the hypotenuse and one leg are given. Find the length of the
other leg and the measures of the angles.
Example Problem: Given a right triangle with a hypotenuse of 10 units and one leg of 6 units, find the other leg and the angles.
Group 2: Intermediate Level
Task: Solve problems where the length of the hypotenuse and one acute angle are given. Find the lengths of the other two sides.
Example Problem: In a right triangle, the hypotenuse is 12 units, and one acute angle is 30 degrees. Find the lengths of the other
sides.
Group 3: Advanced Level
Task: Solve problems where the length of one leg and one acute angle are given. Find the lengths of the hypotenuse and the
other leg.
Example Problem: A right triangle has one leg measuring 8 units and an acute angle of 45 degrees. Determine the hypotenuse
and the other leg.
Group 4: Expert Level
Task: Solve problems where the lengths of both legs are given. Find the hypotenuse and the angles.
Example Problem: Given a right triangle with legs of 9 units and 12 units, calculate the hypotenuse and the angles.
Have students share their solutions and strategies with the class.
Discuss any difficulties encountered and clarify misunderstandings.
Encourage students to reflect on how the different trigonometric ratios were used to solve each problem.
Assessment:
Observe students as they work through the problems, providing individual feedback and support as needed. Collect completed
worksheets to assess understanding and provide further instruction if necessary.
