SPEAKING UNIT 5
SPEAKING UNIT 5
PART 1
I live in Alhaurín el Grande, a charming town in the mountains of Málaga province with around
26.000 (twenty-six thousands) inhabitants. The area is known for its picturesque landscapes,
surrounded by olives and pine forests. The architecture is based on whitewashed houses and
narrow streets. The town has warm temperatures, a slower pace of life and a strong sense of
community, making it an ideal place to enjoy nature and local culture.
What do you like and dislike about where you live? (30s).
I like the tranquility, natural beauty, stunning mountains views, the fresh air, the traditional
festivals and friendly people of Alhaurin el Grande. However, I dislike the difficult access to
larger cities or more diverse activities. Additionally, public transportation is limit.
While I appreciate the peace and natural beauty of my town, I would be open to living in
another place, especially a larger city with better access to education, entertainment and jobs
options. However, I would miss the close-knit relatives and tranquility that I have living in the
small town where I grew up.
PART 2
In the first picture, I see a row (fila) of modern, high-rise apartment buildings in an urban area.
The architecture is elegant/well-designed and contemporary, with large glass windows. There
are also red buses on the street, suggesting this could be London.
In the second picture, there’s a large, isolated house surrounded by green trees. The house is
situated on a hill, with dense forest and mountains in the background. This place is rural,
peaceful and far removed from the busy city.
Living in the city, as seen in the first picture, would probably be fast-paced and convenient,
with easy access to shops, restaurants and public transportation. However, the urban
environment is noisy and bustling, with lots of people and activity.
In contrast, living in the countryside, as shown in the second picture, would be quiet and
peaceful, surrounded by nature. It offers a slow-pace of life with lots of space and privacy.
Although, it might feel isolated and access to stores and entertainment would be limited.
Which of these two places would you prefer to live in and why? (45s).
I would prefer to live in the countryside. I enjoy the peace and quiet that nature provides, and
the idea of being surrounded by greenery (vegetación) and open space is attractive to me. The
slow-pace of life would offer a nice escape from the stress and the noise of the city. The
tranquility and beauty of the rural option would make it a perfect place for relaxation and
reflection.
PART 3
My ideal home would be a blend of comfort, functionality and connection to nature. It would
be a spacious, modern house with large windows to allow plenty of natural light and provide
stunning views of the surrounding landscape. The interior would have an open floor style, with
a cozy living room, a well-equipped kitchen and a dedicated space for hobbies or a home office.
I’d love to have a big garden with trees and flowers for relaxing.
Where would it be? why would you like to live there? (45s).
My ideal home would be located in a quiet, picturesque area, perhaps near the mountains or
by the sea. I would love to live somewhere that offers both natural beauty and easy access to
outdoors activities like hiking, cycling or beach walks. I’d choose a place that’s not too far from
a town or city, allowing access to shops and restaurants. A location with a mild climate, like the
Mediterranean region, would to be perfect.
PART 4
What sort of people live in them? Have you ever been in one?
Skyscrapers are useful because they allow for a large number of people to live or work in a
relatively small piece of land, making them essential in densely populated cities where space is
limited.
People who live in skyscrapers are typically urban dwellers, often professionals who work in the
city and prefer the convenience of being close to their workplace.
I have been in a skyscraper before, and it’s a fascinating experience. However, I’m not sure if I
would like to live in a high building. While the views are amazing, I think I would miss having
easy access to outdoor spaces like gardens or parks. On the other hand, the convenience of city
living and being close to everything might make it worthwhile (que vale/merece la pena) for
some people. For me, it would depend on the overall lifestyle.
