CHAPTER 3

This chapter outlines the research methodology for a study examining the relationship between technology integration and academic performance among Senior High School students at Next Generation Technological College. It details the population and sample size of 82 participants, the use of stratified and simple random sampling methods, and the survey instrument employed for data collection. The chapter also describes the data gathering procedures and the statistical tool, Pearson’s R Correlation Coefficient, used for analysis.

CHAPTER III

Research Methodology

This chapter presents the methods and techniques of the study, population and sample of the

study, research instrument, data collection, data gathering procedure and the statistical tool of the

study.

Methods and Techniques of the Study

The study aims to identify and prove the relationship of Technology Integration and

Academic Performance of Senior High School students at Next Generation Technological

College using quantitative research.

Population And Sample Of The Study

The study gathered 82 participants among the Senior High School student at Next Generation

Technological College on Plaridel Bulacan.

TABLE 1.0: Sample size and section of respondents

The table above shows the distribution of population among the respondents in Grade 11

Senior High School Next Generation Technological College. The sample size of the study is 82

with connection to the usage of Stratified Random Sampling and Simple Random Sampling. In

Stratified Random Sampling, the researchers used Slovin’s formula to find out how many

respondents will be in each section; this process is applied first to divide the total population into

subpopulations. According to Julia Simkus (2023), Stratified random sampling is a sampling

technique in which the population is divided into distinct subgroups, or strata, based on specific

shared characteristics. Researchers then randomly select individuals from each stratum to create

a representative sample of the population. In addition to that, the respondents can also be

characterised and grouped by gender, sex, age, race, education level (Simkus, 2023). On the

other hand, Simple random sampling is described as selecting a random individual among a

group or population through a given equal chances of being selected (Simkus, 2023).
Research Instrument

The researchers used survey questionnaires in gathering the data that focuses on how

technology affect a participant’s academic performance. The questionnaire is adopted and

modified from Questionnaire on Learner Use of Technology by Das & Mishra (2016), consisting

of 15 questionnaires that correlates the significant relationship of technology integration and

academic performance. Moreover, the survey questionnaire also used Likert scale in determining

the factors that affects the data of the participants. On the other hand, a participant’s academic

performance is measured through the grading system of report card in connection to the indicator

used in K-12 Descriptors and Grading Scale of DepEd.

Table 2.0: DepEd Descriptor and Grading Scale

The table above shows how a student’s academic performance is being evaluated and graded

based on the DepEd grading scale with below 75 as the failing remarks and 90 as a remark for a

student who got a title of being an honor.

Table 2.0: Survey Questionnaire about technology integration

The table above shows the survey questionnaire that’s been adopted and modified from

Questionnaire on Learner Use of Technology by Anup Das and Sanjaya Mishra. The survey

questionnaire are consist of the Likert scale as its mode of data gathering. On the other hand, the

survey questionnaire is answered and recorded with the usage of answer options as Strongly

Agree being 5 and I don’t know being 0 (Das & Mishra, 2016).
Data Gathering Procedure

The collection of data will take place at Next Generation Technological College on Plaridel,

Bulacan with a respondent sample size of 82 Senior High School Student. The respondents

should complete a 1 page table survey questionnaire that contains the data to seek the significant

relationship of two variable.

The following procedures are conducted to start the data gathering:

1. The researchers will ask the principal for the conduction of the survey at Senior High

School Student of Next Generation Technological College.

2. The researchers will ask the registrar for the grades of the respondents along with the

schedule to ensure the survey questionnaire will be gathered accurately to the sample

size.

3. The researchers will ask the research adviser to sign the questionnaire along with the

permit to conduct the survey.

4. The researchers will ask the current teaching personnel for the conduction of survey.

5. The researchers will explain the instructions on answering the survey and conduct a data

collection in terms of pictures to provide evidence about doing survey .

6. After participants are done on answering the survey, the researchers will proceed to the

data computation and finalization of the gathered data.

Statistical Tool

. The study seek to prove the significant relationship between Technology integration and

Academic performance hence the usage of Pearson’s R Correlation Coefficient. As explained by

Ken Stewart, Pearson’s Correlation Coefficient is a tool to evaluate and strengthen the

connection between the two variable (Stewart, 2024).
