UNIT 17 – FORMS

AND USES OF
ENERGY
Grade 4
Lets watch together
Let's find out together:
◦ What are the different forms of energy?
◦ How can we use the different forms of energy?
There are different forms of energy all
around us.
◦ Our body also has energy. We use this energy to move around and play.
◦ What forms of energy do we have when we move?
◦ Kinetic energy.
◦ How can we use the energy around us?
◦ To move around, communicate, play, eat, cook, and make electrical equipment work.
There are some forms of energy
◦ Light energy
◦ Heat energy
◦ Sound energy
◦ Electrical energy
◦ Kinetic energy
◦ Potential energy
Light energy
◦ Light energy is a form of energy that helps us to see the things around us.
◦ The sun is the main source of light energy on the earth.
◦ Other than helping us to see the things around us, light energy can also be used to
guide traffic, to communicate, and in cameras.
Heat energy
◦ Heat energy is a form of energy that makes things warm or hot.
◦ The sun is the main source of heat energy on the earth.
◦ It keeps the earth and living things on the earth warm.
We can use heat energy for many
daily activities.
◦ We use heat energy for drying, cooking, ironing, for melting metals, and for warmth.
◦ If we set the hair dryer into high heat and fast fan, it will dry fastest.
Sound energy
◦ Sound energy is a form of energy that we can hear.
◦ When we whistle a tune, tap our feet on the ground, and clap our hands, we produce
sound energy.
◦ Sound energy can be loud like the sound of thunder, or soft like the sound of a whisper.
We use sound energy in many ways.
◦ We use sound energy for informing, for entertainment, for communicating with one
another, and for warnings.
Electrical energy
◦ Electrical energy is a form of energy that is also known as electricity.
◦ All electrical equipment needs electricity to work.
◦ We use electrical energy almost everywhere, including in our houses and schools.
Use of electrical energy

◦ Electrical energy is used to provide us with other forms of energy, such as light, heat,
and sound energy.
Kinetic energy

◦ Kinetic energy is called also as movement energy that have by a moving object.
◦ When we throw a ball, the moving ball has kinetic energy.
◦ Wind and waves in the sea also have kinetic energy because they are moving.
Kinetic energy
◦ Kinetic energy can be used in many ways.
◦ For recreation, for generating electricity, and for transportation.
Potential energy
◦ Potential energy is the energy that is stored in objects. This is also called as stored
energy. Energy can be stored in objects for use at a later time.
Forms of potential energy
◦ Some forms of potential energy are gravitational potential energy, chemical potential
energy, and elastic potential energy.
Use of potential energy
◦ Gravitational potential energy is present in pile drivers, chemical potential energy is
present in food, batteries, and fuels, and elastic potential energy is present in stretched
rubber bands and compressed springs.

2. Light energy is used to communicate, guide traffic, and capture images.
3. Heat energy is energy that makes things feel warm or hot.
4. Heat energy is used to dry things, provide warmth, iron clothes, cook food, and melt
metals.
5. Sound energy is energy that we can hear.
6. Sound energy allows us to communicate with people, inform us of a phone call,
entertain, and give us warnings.
7. Electrical energy is energy that makes electrical equipment work.
8. Kinetic energy is energy found in a moving objects.
9. Kinetic energy is used in recreational activities, transportation, and generating
electricity.
10. Potential energy is energy stored in objects.
11. The different forms of potential energy are gravitational potential energy, chemical
potential energy, and elastic potential energy.
