Report Writing
A report is a written account of an incident heard, seen, done or experienced and meant to
be published, about an event that has taken place in the part. The report helps in recording
the events of importance that occur in our day-to-day life. A good report must have a good
introduction, complete reporting of the incident/ event and proper conclusion.
Types of Reports
1. NEWSPAPER REPORT.
Points to Remember
➢ Write in a less formal and more descriptive manner, while writing a report for a school
magazine.
➢ School Magazine Report: Format: Heading and the writer’s name in the byline
➢ Newspaper Report: Format: Heading, Name of the reporter and news agency in the
byline, place and date.
FORMAT
2. BYLINE: A Sub Headline/Name, rank, position etc. of the person writing the report (it can
also come at the end.)
3. OPENING PARAGRAPH: A brief mention of what happened, where ,how and the most
prominent consequence/effect along with the day, date and time when it took place.
4. DETAILS: Paragraph 2 & 3 give details of the event being reported. Eye witness account
(along with some quotes) is also included. In case of accidents, loss of life and property is
listed, cause of the accident is concluded, police action and rescue operation, damage
control exercise are detailed. Compensation and help announced by government is
mentioned.
The Women Empowerment Organisation (WEO) in association with Child and Women Care
Society (CWCS), both NGOs, observed the Women Empowerment Day at Community
center, Pocket B, Rohini today. The main purpose was to create awareness about women’s
rights and to empower women.
As many as fifty members of the Self-Help Groups (SHGs) formed by WEO and CWCS in
the area participated in the programme. The programme began with a welcome dance by
the renowned dancer, Shobha Advait and was followed by a talk by WEO members.
Ms. Aradhna Srivastava, District Magistrate, Rohini, stressed upon the importance of
education for girls. She also gave details about the Sarv Shiksha Abhiyaan (Education for
All), an initiative by the Government under which students are given books free of cost. Ms.
Radhika, the Director of WEO gave a speech detailing the various free classes organized by
the society to teach young girls painting and soft toy making, which could be developed for
self-employment. She also made the audience aware about the need for women safety and
the various free defense classes organized by the organization.
Dr. Aniket, State Coordinator, CWCS, made the gathering aware of the importance of
observing Women‗s Day and informed the women about various governmental schemes to
help and empower them. Later, a play named ‗Narishakti‘ was staged.The participants
expressed their gratitude to the organizers as they were now better

Your school took up a cleanliness drive in the month of October in accordance with
‘Clean India Campaign’. Write a report of the drive in about 120-150 words to be

REPORT ON CLEANLINESS DRIVE
Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Bellari, undertook a cleanliness drive during the month of
October 20XX in accordance with Clean India Campaign. The school chalked out a monthly
plan to organize numerous activities such as skits, debates, speeches, poster making,
slogan writing, etc.
A special drive was carried out on 2nd October 20XX to reverberate to the mission of
campaigning. The students took a pledge to clean their school, homes, public places and
surroundings. During the morning assembly a play on ‘Clean India, Green India’ was
enacted to highlight the importance of hygiene, sanitation and cleanliness in our day-to-
day life. The school Principal along with staff and students actively involved in the
cleanliness drive. They enthusiastically took up broom and cleaned up every nook and
corner of classrooms, corridors school ground and nearby area.
The whole drive was quite inspiring and motivating for the students. The students realized
the significance of cleanliness and that any work is best done by the person himself. It
made the students aware of the dignity of labour. Everyone took a vow to realise the dream
of Gandhiji to make India clean and green.
