CHESS GENERAL GUIDELINES AND RULES

A. Objectives
A.1 To provide opportunities for the students in Tayabas Western Academy Junior and Senior High
School Department engage in positive activity and develop critical thinking.
A.2 To prepare our potential students to be more competitive in this sport.
A.3 Improve important abilities like sportsmanship, respect, fairness, patience, leadership, confidence,
and a healthy self-perception

B. General Rules
B.1 The chess tournament will feature single players competing in the classic
chess board game.
B.2 Only the contestant whose name appears on the registration form is allowed
to represent his/her department. Substitution will not be permitted.
B.3 Players are not allowed to eat in the playing area while the game is in
progress.
B.4 Players, coaches and spectators are not allowed to make post game analysis,
play against other coaches, spectators, players or discuss finished or unfinished
games within the playing area.
B.5 Mobile phones and other means of electronic communications are strictly
prohibited inside the playing area. A player who will violate this rule shall lose
his/her game.
B.6 A team whose member is giving unsolicited advice or assistance to his
teammate while the games are in progress shall lose their match.

C. Team Composition/Category
C.1 All participants teams consist of 8 representatives. In each grade level 1 male
and 1 female.

 Grade 8
 Grade 9
 Grade 10
C.2 Grade 7 vs Grade 7
Grade 8 vs Grade 8
Grade 9 vs Grade 9
Grade 10 vs Grade 10

D. Forfeiture
D.1 If a team forfeits its first game they will not advance in the tournament.
D.2 Each player will be granted a five-minute grace period.
D.3 If the player arrives before the grace period is up, the game may begin.
D.4 If the player has not arrived at the end of the grace period, a forfeit will be
declared.

E. Protest
E.1 During the contest, teams may protest (a) the misinterpretation or the
misapplication of a rule or (b) a scoring error. The protest must be submitted
immediately, and, if the protest is denied, a timeout will be charged to the
protesting team.
E.2 Protests regarding the judgement of the game officials will not be recognized.

F. Management
F.1 Tournament Management shall have the discretion to act on situations not covered rules if
necessary.
