Blood is pumped through open–
ended vessels and diffuses out of the
body. For smaller animals, internal
organs and body tissues are engulfed
by circulatory fluid, which doesn't
have oxygen transporting cells.

Blood is pumped through
vessels and does not fill body
cavities. Humans have a closed
circulatory system, blood is
enclosed within blood vessels.

is a muscular organ about the size
of your clenched
fist. The human
heart is a double
pump in one organ.
Right side –pumps oxygen-
poor blood to the lungs
Left side –receives oxygen-rich
blood from the lungs

Atria are thin-walled chambers
that ACCEPT receive blood.
Ventricles are thick-walled
chambers that forcefully PUMP
blood out of the heart

transport blood throughout the body.
Types are:
a. Arteries carry oxygenated blood
away from the heart.
b. Veins carry deoxygenated blood
from the body to the heart.
