I. COURSE TITLE: Campus Journalism

II. COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course promotes the development and growth of campus journalism as a means
to strengthen ethical values, encourage creative thinking, and develop moral character and personal discipline
among the students. It encourages and train students on how to produce and manage a school paper. This is also
a practical course to students who are beginners in the journalism field and who want to improve their journalistic
skills.

III. PROGRAM OUTCOMES:

By the time of graduation, the students of the program shall have the ability to:

VIII. CLASSROOM POLICIES

A. Attendance and Punctuality

1. Any student who will be absent from this class shall secure an admission slip from the College Guidance
Coordinator. Admission slips shall be presented to the instructor before he/she can be readmitted. A
medical certificate should be attached to the admission slip in case of absence due to illness, or any proof
for other reasonable cases.

2. A student may still comply with missed examinations, quizzes, and class activities provided that the
absence is excused for some reasons such as being sent to an official business by the University, such as
conferences, athletic meets, and approved class field trips.

3. A student whose absences exceed 20% of the required number of hours of recitation, lecture, laboratory,
or any scheduled work in this subject for the semester shall be automatically dropped from the class roll. If
60% or more absences are unexcused, the student shall fail with a corresponding grade of “5.00”.

4. Students must enter the class within 15 minutes of the scheduled start time. Arrival after 15 minutes will be
considered an absence.

B. Quizzes and Examinations

1. There shall be two long examinations given during this semester, this includes the midterm and final
examinations. A student shall take these examinations strictly following the exam schedule given by the
Registrar. If a student misses taking the exam, he/she should secure an excuse slip and discuss the
rescheduling of the exam with the concerned authority.

2. Quizzes may be announced or unannounced. The provisions for complying with missed quizzes and
activities shall take effect as stipulated in the Student Handbook.

C. Uniform and Dress Code

1. Rules for wearing uniforms are implemented as stated in the Student Handbook.

1. Academic Integrity. All students must adhere to the highest standards of academic honesty and integrity.
Any form of work that is submitted must be original, or contain a clear acknowledgment of the work of

others. A student will be subject to the school’s rules and regulations if found guilty of academic dishonesty,
or violation (cheating, fabrication, plagiarism, sabotage, participation in academically dishonest activities,
facilitating academic dishonesty, and others (Adapted from Himalin, H.D., 2023, Course Syllabus, NVSU).

2. Responsible Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI). AI is a tool with both benefits and drawbacks. Students are
not prohibited from using AI, but should adhere to the following guidelines:
2.1 Provide quality prompts to achieve good outcomes and restate content in your own context to have a
sense of ownership;
2.2 Use legitimate checkers or verify the numbers and facts provided by AI, as students are responsible for
any errors in AI-generated outputs or portions thereof;
2.3 Include a note at the end of the output indicating that AI was used, or cite it according to APA Style 7th
Edition; and
2.4. Be thoughtful about when the tool is useful; use it appropriately and do not rely totally on it for producing
academic output (Mollick, E. & Mollick, L., 2023, Strategies for Teaching and Learning in a ChatGPT
World, Harvard Business School Publishing).

3. For consultations, a student may visit the teacher during his/her consultation hours only as stated in his/her
class schedule. As much as possible, avoid making transactions during his/her break time and during
lunchtime. Please practice courtesy in approaching faculty and staff.

4. Always observe cleanliness and orderliness in the classroom before and after the class period. Practice
CLAYGO (Clean As You Go).
