1. Goal:
o To create an original and meaningful bookmark that reflects a chosen theme, book, or
character, showing creativity and attention to detail.
2. Role:
o The student is a designer and artist, responsible for creating a bookmark that effectively
represents a literary concept or theme.
3. Audience:
o The primary audience includes classmates, teachers, or anyone interested in literature or the
theme represented in the bookmark.
4. Situation:
o The student has the opportunity to share their love for reading or a specific literary theme by
designing a bookmark that others can use and enjoy.
5. Product/Performance:
o Students will create a bookmark using provided materials or materials they bring from home.
The bookmark should be well-crafted, visually appealing, and clearly represent the chosen
theme.
6. Standards for Success:
o A successful bookmark will be neat, creative, and effectively reflect the chosen theme. The
design should be original, visually engaging, and completed within the given guidelines.

Materials:
❖ Cardstock or thick paper
❖ Scissors

Instructions:
1. Cut Out Your Bookmark
o Cut a rectangle from the cardstock. The bookmark size is about 2 inches wide by 6
inches long.
2. Choose a Theme or Design
o Think of a theme, book quote, or design you’d like for your bookmark. This could be
inspired by a favorite book, character, or simply colors and patterns you enjoy.
3. Decorate Your Bookmark
o Use colored markers, crayons, or colored pencils to draw your design. Add patterns,
quotes, or small drawings that fit your theme.
o Optional: Add stickers, stamps, or decorative paper for extra creativity.
4. Punch a Hole and Add Ribbon (Optional)
o If you want a tassel, use the hole punch to make a hole at the top of your bookmark.
Loop a ribbon or string through the hole and tie it off.
5. Let It Dry
o If you used glue, wait a few minutes for it to dry before using your bookmark in a book.
Tips:
