8.1.9-(4.4.6.9)

1.0 PURPOSE:

To provide an efficient waste inventory and waste management programme

incorporating adequate scrap and refuse bins and a safe and effective removal
system.

2.0 PHILO SOPHY:

It is essential that no unnecessary waste is produced by the processes and that

any waste that is produced is disposed of efficiently and without detrimentally
affecting the environment. Waste bins in the Workshops, backed by an effective
removal system, will ensure that waste products do not accumulate at the
workplace thereby adversely affecting production. It is the policy that an efficient
and effective waste management system be maintained to protect the environment
and the company.

3.0 PROCEDURE AND REGULATIONS:

3.1 Waste Inventory and Classification

The Site Manager must compile a classified, up-to-date list of all waste
produced and documented proof of disposal site licences and inspections
kept.

3.2 Waste Minimisation Study

Steps should be taken to reduce the volume of hazardous and non-
hazardous waste. Reducing the toxicity of any hazardous waste should
also be tackled.

3.3 Waste Minimisation Programme

Where the potential to reduce waste exists, programmes to do this should
be introduced and the progress monitored.

3.4 Scrap and Refuse Container Removal

Sufficient, adequately suitable bins should be provided for the waste
collection. The locations for these bins should be adequately marked and
they should be emptied according to a predetermined schedule.

3.5 On-Site Waste Handling

Any on-site waste disposal should be covered by the permits required for
such an operation and such on-site facilities managed according to
standards.

3.6 Hazardous Waste Labelling

Any hazardous waste containers must be clearly labelled (according to a
known standard) with contents, hazard rating and date of accumulation.

3.7 Hazardous Waste Storage

Hazardous waste must be stored in dedicated and access controlled
storage areas, which are separate from non-hazardous waste areas and
which have impermeable floors and a roof covering. Stored documented
records must be kept of the hazardous waste. Bund walls must be provided
where required by law and appropriate clean-up materials stored nearby.

3.8 Hazardous Waste Transportation

Any company removing hazardous waste must be fully informed of the exact
nature of the waste and must be under contract with their duties specified.

3.9 Hazardous Waste Treatment, Recycling and Disposal

Hazardous waste may only be disposed of or treated at a facility with the
appropriate permit classification. The SHEQ Manager should inspect
treatment or disposal facilities at regular intervals.
