in Berlin
Berlin is the heart of Europe. And we are in the heart of Berlin.
Germany’s capital is a hub for political and cultural events and a crossroads for travel
in Europe and beyond. Located in Mitte, the Hertie School is just minutes away from
key political and historic landmarks.

A political and start-up hub

As the capital of Germany, Berlin is the epicenter for political decision-makers and
policy debates. It's also a city where history is all around. Additionally, Berlin is one of
Europe's most important start-up hubs.

Affordable and easy to navigate

Among Berlin’s many assets is its affordability. Housing and general expenses are
relatively lower than in many major European capitals. It’s especially welcoming for
students, with special discounts at many venues - and it’s also known as a very bike-
friendly city.

“For me, Berlin symbolises

opportunity and the freedom to
pursue whatever you wish.
I always knew I wanted to build
my career in public policy and
wanted to study in the heart of
Europe. Studying here feels like
the entire city is your campus.”

The Master of

Public Policy
The Master of Public Policy (MPP) gives you the tools you need to analyse policies,
critically assess policy innovations and evaluate solutions. It is a hands-on degree
that provides the knowledge and the experience you can use to promote good
policies in all sectors. This interdisciplinary programme is ideal for those who want to
understand and get involved in public affairs, learn analytical and managerial skills
and help shape tomorrow’s world. In a nutshell:

What is the MPP?

It's a two-year, full-time programme entirely taught in English. You
will sharpen and deepen your analytical, leadership and management
skills to tackle today’s most pressing public policy issues.

Is it for me?
The MPP is for students who want to understand and solve complex
governance challenges (social, political, economic, and environmental)
at the local, national, regional, and global scale.

And after I graduate?

You will be able to work in a broad range of roles, including policy
analyst, government official, policy researcher, advisor or consultant.

The strength of the programme

is its structure: “it has a really
precise core of classes, but at the
same time it’s flexible enough
that it can be adapted to the
different fields of focus that the
students are interested in.”
