superiority with short adjectives.

 Bio is old. Baké is young.
 Bio is older than Baké → Baké is younger than Bio.
2-
 CEG Malanville is big. CEG Ounet is small.
 CEG Malanville is bigger than CEG Ounet → CEG Ounet is smaller
than CEG Malanville.
Task: Answer the following questions.
a- Identify the adjectives in the sentences in bold.
b- Do notice a difference? Discuss.
Strategy and duration: Lockstep = 12 min

Expected answers:
a- Older, younger, bigger and smaller.
b- Yes, there is a difference:
- Older = old + er, Younger = young + er
- Bigger = big + er; Smaller = small + er
Rule: Comparative of superiority with short adjectives.

Adjective + er + than

Examples: Faiza is older than Jeremy.


Florence is happier than Alima.
NB:
 Double the final “g”; “n” or “t” after a vowel.
Examples: Thin → thinner; Big → bigger, Fat → fatter
 After consonant + y, “Y” becomes “I” before adding “ER”
Examples: happy → happier; Easy → easier
 Irregular comparative
- Good → better than
- Bad → worse than
Examples: 18/20 is better than 08/20; 04/20 is worse than 09/20
