Minors Offered by the Physics Department

The Physics Department offers two minor programs: a Minor in Physics and a Minor in Quantum Information and Technologies, each requiring a set number of courses and units. The Minor in Physics requires 5 courses (15 units) with 3 core courses and electives, while the Minor in Quantum Information and Technologies requires 5 courses (15 units) with 1 core course and a minimum of 4 electives. Students can register for a minor after their second year, with specific restrictions on course overlap between majors and minors.

Minors offered by the Physics Department

Minor programs are offered as options for first degree students with the intent of encouraging
them to add focus to their supplemental learning (outside a major area) as well as recognizing and
certifying the knowledge obtained in an area that is outside of their major area. A minor may be
inter-disciplinary. A minor will be recognized by means of a separate certificate.

A student may register for a Minor program at the end of their second year. The courses for the minor are
selected from the pool contributing to the minor include mandatory (core) and elective courses, subject to
the following restrictions:
● At most 2 courses (and at most 6 units) may be met by mandatory courses of the student’s
majors or. from the general institutional requirement (excluding Humanities).
● No course may be used to meet the requirements of two different minors nor may a course be
used to meet the requirements of two majors and a minor.
