PepsiCo-Green Field Project
1. Scope of Work
o The Reinforcement work shall be carried out in accordance with specifications, approved drawings
and Method Statement. This procedure covers the requirement of materials, equipment, and
workmanship for Reinforcement works.
2. Materials Required
o All steel bars, sections, plates and other miscellaneous steel materials, etc. shall be free from loose
mill scales, rust as well as oil, mud paint or other coatings. The materials, construction
specifications such as dimensions, shape, weight, tolerances, testing etc. for all materials covered
under this section, shall conform to respective BIS codes.
o Reinforcement Bar: High strength deformed steel bars of minimum grade Fe-500D, conforming to
IS: 1786 shall be used.
3. Equipment Required
4. Methodology-
o Reinforcement shall be procured from approved vendor and shall be stored at site according to
grade & sizes on raised platform / timber packing to avoid contact with soil.
o MTC shall be verified for conformance with IS 1786 & samples shall be drawn for testing as per
requirements of FQP.
o Bar Bending Schedule shall be developed for all RCC Structures/ Structural part and shall get it
reviewed by the Owner/PMC
o Reinforcement shall be cut and bent to shape as per dimensions shown in the bar bending
schedule/drawings.
o All bars shall be properly tagged for easy identification.
o Bending of bars shall be carried as per guidelines of IS 2502.
o All reinforcement shall be cleaned to ensure freedom from loose mill scale, loose rust, oil, form
releasing agents, grease or any other harmful material before placing them in position.
Reinforcement shall not be surrounded by concrete unless it is free from all such materials. Rough
handling and dropping of reinforcement from a height shall be avoided.
o All reinforcement shall be fixed in the correct position and shall be properly supported to ensure
that displacement will not occur when the concrete is placed and compacted.
o The uncoated reinforcement bars shall be tied at every intersection by GI 16 Gauge binding wire.
Crossing bars shall not be tack welded for assembly of reinforcement.
o The reinforcement bars shall be kept in position by using the following methods:

PepsiCo-Green Field Project
o a) In case of beam and slab construction, precast cover blocks (having the same grade as the
concrete which shall be placed) of size 50 mm and thickness equal to the specified covers shall be
placed firmly in between the bars and forms so as to secure and maintain the specified covers over
there in for cement. When reinforcement bars are placed in two or more layers in beams, the
vertical distance between the horizontal bars shall be maintained by introducing spacer bars at 1 to
1.2m center to center.
o b) In case of thick rafts & pile caps having two or multilayer’s of reinforcement, the vertical
distance between the horizontal bars shall be maintained by introducing suitable chairs, spacers, etc.
o c) In case of columns and walls, the vertical bars shall be kept in position by means of timber
templates with slots accurately cut in them. The templates shall be removed after the concreting has
been done below it.
o d) Exposed portions of reinforcement bars shall not be subjected to impact or rough handling and
workmen will not be permitted to climb on extending bars the overlapping bars shall be tied with
two strands of 16 gauge binding wire. The overlaps shall be staggered for different bars and located
at points along the span where neither shear nor bending moment is maximum.
o A full-time supervisor will be present at the site while carrying out the work.
o Area of construction works shall be demarcated and shall be barricaded with safety barriers, traffic
cones and warning signs.
o General Safety: All works shall be carried out as per the COMPANY’s Safety Rules and
Regulations. The copy of the same shall be available at site. All personnel will be provided with
adequate PPEs.
o Accident reporting procedure: As per COMPANY’s Safety Rules and Regulations.
o Training: All operators/labours are safety trained and Tool Box Talk shall be conducted frequently.
o Housekeeping: High Standard of housekeeping shall be maintained.
o First Aid Box: First aid box with medicine shall be kept at site.
