carries 4 marks each. Read the passage carefully and answer the questions that follows:

37. Read the following and answer any four questions from 37 (i) to 37 (iv). [4]
As we know that, in case of concave mirrors when a ray of light parallel to principal axis strikes
the mirror and after reflection it passes through principal focus of the concave mirror. Also, a ray
which is passing through the principal focus of the concave mirror after reflection goes parallel to
the principal axis. And the ray of light which is passing through the centre of curvature of
concave mirror after reflection retraces the same path in backward direction. Because of
converging property of concave mirrors, they are used in solar furnaces to concentrate more
light to produce huge amount of heat energy. They are also used in search lights, torches, head
lights of vehicles so that a strong parallel beam of light will be produced. Also, in case of shaving
mirrors concave mirrors are used to see larger face of the person.

While convex mirrors are used as rear-view mirror in vehicles to see the traffic behind the person
for safe driving. As these mirrors are curved outwards they has wider field of view. In convex
mirrors the image formed is always diminished, virtual and erect.

In concave mirror, when the object is at infinity the image formed will be at focus F and which is
highly diminished, point sized, real and inverted.

(a) In case of concave mirror when the image formed is virtual and erect?
(b) In which case the image formed is of same size as the object in case of concave mirrors?
(c) What is the arrangement of the three types of mirrors in the special mirror that causes a boy
to observe his head enlarged, his middle body unchanged, and his legs diminished in size?
OR
(c) What is the linear magnification (m) typically produced by a rearview mirror fitted in
vehicles?

38. Read the following passage and answer the questions from 38 (a) to (d). [4]
Sulphuric acid is a strong acid and is extremely useful both in the industry and in the laboratory.
A dilute sulphuric acid is obtained by mixing the concentrated acid with water. Care must be
taken while diluting the acid with water. It is done by adding acid drop wise to water taken in a
beaker and not water to the acid.

(a) What happens if water is added to the acid taken in the beaker?
(b) How will you account for this observation?
(c) How will the concentration of hydronium ions(H3O+) change on dilution?
(d) What happens when sodium hydroxide is treated with dilute sulphuric acid?
OR
(d) Why acids do not show acidic behaviour without water?

39. The figure shown below represents an activity to prove the requirements for photosynthesis. [4]
During this activity, two healthy potted plants were kept in the dark for 72 hours. After 72 hours,
KOH is kept in the watch glass in set up ‘X’ and not in set up ‘Y’. Both these set ups are airtight
and have been kept in light for 6 hours. Then, iodine test is performed with one leaf from each of
the two plants ‘X’ and ‘Y’.

(a) What would be the results of iodine test performed on the leaf from plant ‘X’ and ‘Y’
respectively?
(b) How do we make the apparatus airtight?
(c) Explain the role of Potassium hydroxide in this experiment.
